*REBUTTAL Owner of company: This Patient Does Not Value Quality Service nor understands Dental Insurance
Overcharged.. Had insurance and they charged 78.00 for exam and over 100.00 to insurance. I called insurance company and they said should be free. I called dentist back and they said took extra X-rays that insurance does not pay. .... They advertise 90 dollar for first exam but charges almost 200 dollars when you go there... Rip off

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company
This Patient Does Not Value Quality Service nor understands Dental Insurance
AUTHOR: James Roppa - (USA)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, October 15, 2017
This is Dr. Dominic Roppa, Co-Owner of Smile Viera. We have been serving Viera, Rockledge, and sournounding areas for over 12 years and have seen over 10,000 patients in that time. We continue to receive positive feedback from patients daily on how satisified they are with our customer service policies, office atomosphere, and high quality dental cares.
Every once in awhile, we get a new patient such as this one. No matter how much you inform these patients, it never sinks in. They comment they have been seeing the same dentist for 30 years and it was never done like this or they have bounced from many dentists. One who does not value quality dental care and is only interested in letting an insurance company dictate what is best for them. They call their customer service agent, seeks their advice, which most often the time, is completely wrong and does not know how to accurately interpret their own insurance plans. We do not overcharge our patient or overcharge the insurance company. No dental insrance is alike; If there ever was an issue with billing we handle it immediately and determine how it happened so it doesn't happen again.
We have had the same policy in regards to our x rays and digital photographs for 12 years. 99% of patients that we see are awesome and truely interested in better dental health.
We created our protocols to help the patient in many ways. By taking specific xrays and pictures, we can monitor conditions over time, have proof of before and afters, send these images to insurance companies to make them pay on your behalf, and aid our discussion when we discuss treatment options. Insurance companies don't care about the patient, they are multi milliion dollar companies, nor do they care about the dentist. We treat everyone like family and we want the best for all of our patients. If that means we have to do more things to ensure you are fully taken care of, we will do that regardless of what the insurance tells us to do. Have you ever heard of someone who had intestinal cancer, but insurance only paid for a colon screening. That's because insurance wouldn't pay for the more extensive exam! Horrible.
Every patient is told of what is needed for their initial New Patient Experience (Medical History Review, Full Mouth of Xrays (18), Panoramic X ray (1), Intra Oral Photographs (30), gum measurments, doctor exam, and treatment plan options). We explain all of this PRIOR to any treatment is performed. We inform them that insurance will not cover the additional xray (PANO) and numerous intra oral pictures. We state the fee ahead of time as $78 that the insurance will not cover. No tricks, not deceipt, no lies, all upfront!!
This allows the patient to trust our policy or choose a different office. This paitnet was one who did not agree with what and why we do things the way we do. That is ok, that is their right. But to go onto a website and to vent, is childish. What about the awesome 10,000 patients that accepted our policy?? Strength in numbers??
I thank all our great patients for you longevity, loyalty, and we will continue to serve you well. If anyone ever has an issue with policy, existing or new patients, my door is always open.
