I performed Masonry work on an all brick, new residential home.
The weather that year was the wettest I have seen in 20 years in the trade. I told the Builder that the wet brick should not be laid in the wall. (For many reasons) I was pushed, verbally abused, and threatened by lawsuits if it was not done quickly. I informed the homeowner of the situation, and requested that they ack off on the pressure of completion. He agreed.
The home needed extensive pressure washing to clean all of the efflouresence off of the brick and mortar joints.
Anyone layman who looks at this home will say it is beautiful. If you look at it up close, you will see slight imperfections due to pressure washing. (A bricklayer is his worst critic!)
I admit that there are a few minor things wrong with the job, and can be fixed at a very reasonable price. I agreed to fix them, but was told to not return to the property.
I worked for over 2 months completing this home. I recieved a balance of just 10,000.... with a remaining balance owed of over 24,000.
If you can find a masonry job out there that is perfect in EVERY way, You did not look close enough.
I have been fighting this for over a year, and feel with all my heart that I am being used as a pawn to get back at because... HE CAN.
Big business against the little man.
I have never had anything but praise about every job I have ever completed. I did 2 homes for this Builder and it has been complete hell.
60 days was gone, so I was unable to put a lien on the property.
What happened to a few words... like "Trust" and "Honesty"
It is so sad that some people feel that they are so much above others that they can literally ruin their lives until this is settled.

The Beautiful Masonry Home

I know both the contractor and the mason that performed the work. Our company happened to be also working on the same home, so I saw first hand the actual work performance for the whole project.
The home is beautiful, and very well built. The mason work did take alot of time to complete. It seemed the masons where only there 3-4 hours a day and on a very liberal schedule.
The home was a parade home and needed to be completed on a very tight schedule. All the other trade workers seemed to be on schedule and needed to re-arrange their work efforts around the mason.
As for the finished product, the power washing that was done actually removed mortar from some of the joints plus damaged the facing on a few of the bricks. One of the other subs pointed out at one of the windows at the rear of the home, the rows of brick did not match in number, there was an extra row to one side. Things such as these are hard to see but drive owners and contractors crazy.
This mason had worked on another project that we were involved on with similar results. On that job, I think it took a little over 2 1/2 months to complete.
All I can say is this contractor is still building houses. I have not seen the mason around.
