south Carolina dmv error in system cost me hundreds if dollars columbia south Carolina

In February we drove from statesboro ga to columbia and Lexington, south carolina to pay all the fines necessary to reinstate my boyfriend's license. We left with a valid license. Months later my boyfriend is pulled over, arrested, and had his car impounded because of a suspended license. Upon speaking with the officer we found out it was suspended for failure to pay fines. $150 in bail money and a $200 inpound fee later we find out it his license was resuspended for a fine that was paid already. We called the  dmv and told them we had a receipt in our hands that said those fines were paid.

Which in fact ,after 20 min on hold that the dmv did in fact make an error but blamed the court house in columbia for not faxing a release. We personally brought copies of the release to the dmv in Lexington the day we had to pay the fines. We were told specifically to bring it to them or they wouldnt authorize the reinstatement. Why should it matter if they didnt fax another copy? Why was the license reinstated only to resuspend it three days later? We made phone call after phone call and finally got someone to listen to what happened and we were told the issue would be looked into and someone would let us know something soon.

In the meantime we were out everything it cost and them some once we faxed all the info the asked for. A few days later we receive an email not a phone call stating that the dmv was not willing to compensate us for our damages and gave us the same excuse about how the tickets was not paid on the day it says was on the receipt that they gave us, that in their opinion paid after the second suspension. His license should never have been reinstated in the first place but it is valid now. It was a total contradiction to what the receipt said. Someone there made the mistake and wont admit it
