First of all, I already told you how to handle the tag discrepancy. Very simple. If you paid for a year, you will get a year.

You bought an old used car! You bought it AS IS! Why exactly , do you feel this car dealer is obligated to "fix all the problems" with the car "or replace it with a new car"?? You DID NOT buy a NEW car, you bought a USED car without a warranty!

Please explain your sense of entitlement here!

I am sorry that you feel this way. We as the dealership gave you a 45 day temporary plate until you get the permanent plate and registration through the mail that we have already sent to you. Yes, the registration and plates that we sent you are good for one full year. As for the car that you purchased. You bought a 2000 Nissan Altima and got a great deal at $5995. and you got the payment you wanted. We were still able to do this with your 3 previous repos. I am also sorry that you took the car to a high estimate mechanics shop and they wanted you to pay a very high amount for a cad converter. We do however have the copy of the emissions record that clearly states that it passed. Since you dodged my question of the AS IS status of the sale, I take that to be that you did, in fact buy the car AS IS, meaning they have no obligation to fix the emissions on the 8 year old car you bought.

You can do as I previously suggested and go to the Motor Vehicle Dept and get the remaining 9 months registration you paid for. And you can file a complaint against the dealer there.

HOWEVER, you will still have to get the emissions to pass, or go through the waiver process AZ offers BEFORE fixing the registration issue.

These are 2 totally separate issues/complaints.

If they said it passed emissions, they would have a copy of the emissions testing report to back it up, as this is required to be submitted to get registration changed. Ask for a copy of the emissions test. You should have asked for this when you bought the car.

Also, you never mentioned if this is a "Buy Here - Pay Here" car lot or if you obtained bank financing, or paid cash. And the mileage on the car should be posted too. The selling price would also be good information here.

When I lived in AZ the plates stayed with the car, not the owner.

You can buy a generic cat for it relatively cheap and have it installed. This should be about $200. If you are talking about an oxygen sensor, these are easily changed and are relatively cheap.

You need to understand that you bought an 8 year old car on an AS IS basis. Old used cars need repairs. That is unavoidable.

Next time you buy a car, you should take someone with you who knows cars, and also how to deal with a car dealer.

As I see it right now, the ONLY issue you have is paying for tags for 1 year and only getting three months.

You can take your contract/reciept to the DMV and immediately get it corrected, HOWEVER it is still YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to pass emissions unless they made a specific warranty that it would pass included in your sale contract.

Is this a "buy here, pay here" dealership? If so, I can almost guarantee you signed an AS IS disclosure statement when you bought the car.

Did they sell you an aftermarket warranty? If so, they usually cover emissions equipment after you meet your per visit/per item deductible.
