Start Mart ripoff Portland Oregon

I went into Start mart on a Saturday early afternoon and asked them if the could rebuild my $300 hi torque mini starter. The man there told me he could and would have it ready by 5:00 that evening, which really excited me. He told me it was a cash deal only. At the time I didnt think anything of it. When I showed up he gave me the starter and took my cash. I asked him for a receipt and he said no. I then told him I wanted something showing it was rebuilt. He wrote a name on the back of a businees card and said I pay $75. That was all he
would give me.

Driving home it was obvious he was going to pocket the money. Because this is a race car and It isnt finished I wasnt in any hurry to put it back in. A few months later I finally got it in the car and the bendix gear was grinding really bad.

I pulled it out of the car and went back to Start Mart. I told the guy there the story about the receipt, and he didnt give me any trouble. As a matter of fact he said he new exactly the guy that was stealing sales from the company. He said dont worry I'll take it apart and fix it myself no charge. I came back later that day and he said he couldnt find anything wrong with it, but he tested it and its good to go. I took it home re-installed it again and the same grind noise was still there.

so I got under the car with a digital movie camera and shot a video. I then took a laptop to Start mart and showed 4 of there employee's the video, and they all agree'd although very rare the end of the bendix gear was worn. He said he would order me one right away. But it could be a few weeks to track one down.

I waited a few weeks and called back and it turns out all the employee's were fired from start mart. I told the guys there to call the ex-employee and find out about my bendix gear. He refused to and didnt want to even try to help me. I told him the whole story and besides not wanting to hear what I was saying, he wanted me to leave. He told me that it wasnt he problem.

I'll just stop right there and say. My race car is for sale and I have potential buyers looking at it this week. I had to go buy a new starter at $268. And the other, in my opinion going to be purchased by start mart for $375 if I can figure out how. $300 for the starter and $75 for the employee that never fixed it right.

If I cant get them to pay I'll make sure this story is well known to as many people as I can.
