Every individual that I dealt with at this dealership is shifty, slimy and sleazy. I went to this Toyota dealership to view a new 2007 Camry. I had NO intention of purchasing a vehicle that particular day. After viewing and driving two new 2007 Camry vehicles I asked for a price on the second one, a 2007 Camry Hybrid with my 2005 Infiniti G35 as a trade-in.

I was told that the dealership charges $5,000. OVER the sticker price for a Hybrid Camry since they are in high demand. I told the salesman that I would never pay over sticker price. The salesman knew VERY little about this model vehicle. My questions were not answered by him about particular options and accessories.

The salesman told me that the deal on this particular vehicle just "fell-through" earlier that day and that I would not have to pay the $5,000. OVER sticker price. He said I should be aware of that before we talked to his manager.

My trade-in vehicle was appraised for approximately $2,000. to $3,000. below the "trade-in" values that I had searched myself on the interned. I had used several sources.

In the end I wound up paying $5.00 over sticker price with a payment close to the amount I was paying on my existing car loan. However, I was forced to take the (new) vehicle home that day. Personal property on my trade-in was promised to be saved for me but was DESTROYED by the dealership. I paid an extremely high interest rate for the new vehicle (despite my credit score in the 790s). I was also forced into a $1,000. down, which the dealership forgot to collect.

The new vehicle was delivered with stains on the paint and a defective rear window. Subsequent calls and emails to dealership were NEVER responded to. Items promised to me on the new vehicle were ignored & forgotten. Out of my two letters to the General Manager, they claimed the first one was "lost" by them. I requested the General Manager to have the salesman and the Sales Manager call me with an apology. That never happened. All I received was a call from the "business" manager asking for my $1,000. which they forgot to collect. He threatened to delay my tag and registration paperwork (which they did anyway).

All I can say is that I should have known better. However, this is absolutely the WORST car buying experience that I have EVER had. Subsequent mechnaical problems with the vehicle have also presented themselves.

This was the CLASSIC car buying experience nightmare from start to finish. The promise of additional accessories on my new vehicle were NEVER delivered. BUYER beware, BE SMART (smarter than I was) and NEVER purchase ANYTHING from Stone Mountain Toyota in Stone Mountain Georgia.

Common Dealer Tricks

AUTHOR: Kendrick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 18, 2006

I brought a new Toyota 4Runner in 2004 from Stone Mountain.I didn't have any problems, but that's not to say that they didn't rip you off. Sounds like they did, but you allowed them to.

Number One, dealers love to take trade ins, so they can play with the numbers for their benefit.

Second, you said yourself that the salesman didn't answer your questions fully. You should have walked away right then.

Third, you allowed them to charge you a higher interest rate eventhough you have a 790 credit score. With all your displeasures, you still went ahead and signed the contract. You stated that you had no intention of purchasing a vehicle that day, so you shouldn't been under pressure.

Fourth, always get promises/IOU's in writing. Hey, we've all made bad financial decisions. Next time, you want fall for these dealer tricks. Good Luck.
