Subway Sandwiches overcharges for their value meals. The nationally advertised price for a value meal is $5.00. When I purchased two value meals I was charged $11.18, or $5.59 per meal. They tried to explain the reason for the different charge but it made no sense at all. I contacted Subway by email and the store owner called to try and explain the reason. She only could say that the registers were programmed to charge that amount and really couldn't answer my question. They are ripping people off on each purchase of a meal.

Subway Slidell,La overcharge for value meal

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. The two value meals ordered were from their menu selection of meals for $5.00. There were no "extras" or upsells on drinks, chips or sandwich purchased. They just could not give any viable explanation as to why the meals were $5.59 plus tax. It would seem very simple to correct any inaccurate charges, but they won't even use common sense that 5 plus 5 equals 10.

Your original report did not say that that was before tax. Which is why others figured it was tax. Since you left that out perhaps there is more you left out(even if it is unintentional). You said the difference was $0.59, it seems like you may have been charged for some sort of "upsell". This could be things such as additional meat, substitution, larger drink, bigger chips, etc.
Your original post also made it seem like there was more to their explanation than just the registers are programmed this way. But if that was all of the explanation, saying the registers are programmed for any "upsells" could be correct. So this may not be a RipOff if you did actually do any upsells.

Subway overcharges on value meal Slidell, La

The Subway in Slidell, La charged me 5.59 each for two 6 inch value meals and then added 98 cents sales tax for a total of $12.16. If the meals are supposed to be $5.00 each, then the total should have been $10.88. The sales tax is 8.75%. They could give me no valid reason why I was charged 59 cents more per meal other than to say that was how the cash registers were programmed. Now let's see, that's 59 cents per meal times 100 orders per day would be equal to an extra $1,770.00 per month or an extra $21,240.00 per year. Not bad for very little extra effort.

Maybe you got charged this amount was because it due to TAX -
Yes they advertise for 5.00 subs but that that does not include tax
Add it up - if your county/city charges 08.5 tax then that is 42.5 cents
Do the math - I did
Not a rip off

So what was the reason they gave you that didn't make sense?
