Sunoco crude transport and pipe line, ran by the incredibly obtuse. The company appears to be an good job but once you start you will never be moved up in this company, unless you are one of the following: related to some one in management, you are in the right ethnic group (not trying to be a races), extremely lazy, or too stupid to live. The examples I could give of these condition for advancement would fill a book so I will just use one.

There was a supervisor positioning for someone with a college degree, and had experience in this type of field. The job was given to a person that is know to every co worker to falsify time sheets (two hour breaks in the real word, but 30 min. on time sheets), notably did less work than the new guys (or anyone for that mater), late for work every day, just made it through high school, and no college education at all which was a major requirement for the job. This employee was picked over of about 20 actually qualified people. All in all this man is management material.

Around 2000 Sunoco bout out Pride Pipe Line out of Texas just after Pride Pipe Line went bankrupt, and took nearly all the supervisors of Pride and made them supervisors in the Sunoco company, which is probably why they had a layoff of transport drivers in Texas 2 years later. I guess their next move is to employ the executive CEO of Enron.

These examples are just the tip of the iceberg of how thing are managed in this company, so inclosing if your looking for a job with potential and advancement don't go there, your better off joining the army.

Sunoco hiring practices, an old company with old morals

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 08, 2004

I had the same experience with Sunoco in Exton, PA. My goal was to take my past experiences, my college degree and a good attitude and work my way up at Sunoco.

Sunoco allowed me to move from driver to dispatcher which was a good experience and I was thankful for that.

What Sunoco did that really bothered me was constantly hire people who were
a. the son of a manager
b. the brother in law of a terminal manager
c. (it just goes on and on)

Perfect story...
Three managers in our division were the sons of former upper level managers. (ok-no big deal). one night i was working late night dispatch. my nextel went off..."help, i need help...i was in an accident". I knew one of the drivers were in an accident but I didn't know who it was. The nextel # calling in was one of the floating nextels (meaning anyone could have grabbed it and started their route. I said over and over "respond-what is your truck #? who is this? what is your 10-20?" All i got was "I need help". Then, about 10 minutes later, my new manager called in on that very nextel #. Turns out that Sunoco was having a managers Christmas party and one manager (the guy who was the son of the upper level manager...the guy who got the job instead of me) decided to pull a prank. I was so close to calling 911 because I thought a driver was hurt. The next day I was told that was just boys being boys and they were just blowing off some steam.

I like Sunoco and I really had wished that my time there was better spent. The fact is that Sunoco is an old company with old morals and if your daddy was an "ol sunoco boy" then chances are you could be one too. Good company...great product...solid financials...just didn't work for me.
