On April 7, 2018, I purchased window tint from Superior Tint of Boca Raton, Inc. The film your installer Landis applied on my windows was not the 3M Prestige 40 exterior that I ordered and paid for.

According to Accent Distributing, the company that supplied the tint for this project has reported that the window tint you installed  was an exterior application was actually an interior tint. Your company installed the incorrect window tint and immediately after the installation, the windows fogged and two of the windows cracked.  The 3M Company representative also confirmed the tint you installed was the incorrect film for my home.

I have attempted to get a full refund of the $2825.00 purchase price and the cost of replacing the two cracked windows estimated at $3,000 . Landis said he is only authorized to replace the tint and not refund money for my purchase price or the cost of replacing the two broken glass windows.

An interior tint applied to an exterior window is the incorrect film and because it did not have the weatherproof film caused the glass to fog.  In addition, any interior film installed on impact glass is not recommended since it will create thermodynamic instabilities of elevated temperatures, the film to fog and when applied to an impact glass, fractures in the surface.

During the 8 months your film was installed, every window fogged and prevented us from viewing. The windows were extremely hot to the touch as if a magnifying glass was being held from the sun to the interior. Our electric bills did not decrease as was the reason for the purchase and stated in the 3M product literature of the product you said you were going to install.  In fact over those 8 months our electric usage actually increased from the previous year.

Worse, two of the impact windows cracked due to your incorrect film installation on impact windows that have been intact for over 12 years.  The only failure was on the two impact windows that only receive partial sunlight which according to window experts ...As a glazing system is exposed to sunlight, ( in this case installing an inside film on the outside window) the film conducts heat by absorption. This heat causes the glass to expand within the frame. If the heat is unable to uniformly disperse itself throughout the pane, ( due to the film retaining heat rather than dissipating heat) a portion of the glass seeks to expand quicker than the rest, which creates surface pressure. This sudden pressure causes the glass to crack. Our glass cracked due to your improper application of an interior film on the exterior glass which allowed an elevated heat temperature to cause undue thermal dynamic stress breakage.  As a professional installer you should have recognized that the purchase you made from your distributor was incorrect and avoided its installation when the product was received.

Your company does not offer any other product that we can safely use on our home. I spoke to Landis who tells me the security film he offers will not protect our home from hurricane wind damage.  I asked if your company offers any other window protection and he said only sun and heat protection.  I told Landis I would not be reapplying the same product on our windows due to the failures we experienced - fogging, elevated interior heat and broken glass due to heat expansion.

I still need you for you to immediately reimburse the full amount I paid for the 3M Prestige 40 exterior film for $2,825.00 ( Ck 7232 $1262.50 Mar 27 2018 and Ck 1052 $1562.50. April 7 2018)and need you to payback in full for the replacement of all the glass damaged due to the film, estimated at $3,000.

I have tried contacting you and Landis over the past month via email, text and letter and you have failed to answer.  Therefore I am contacting the Better Business Bureau, The Florida Secretary of State Corporations Division and the public about your company’s deceptive practices so others do not fall victim to your company and your outlandish false claims on your website of “guaranteed satisfaction”. I will also be contacting my attorney to send a demand letter of payment before filing suit.

As a follow up to my original post written 4 months ago, Jason Murtagh, followed through on his promise to reimburse in full for the failed tint as well as payment for the broken windows. Jason said the failure had nothing to do with their installation but the incorrect window film that 3M delivered to the job.

If the correct window film was installed these issues would never of happened. Jason said that 3M Company covered the costs due to their error and not the error of his company.
