This individual claimed to know about Universities and which one would be the best for me. Her fee was 350 dollars for a trip to a college convention where she could talk to the Deans of Admission. The fee was for a plane ticket. She claimed she went but I do not believe her. She said she knew people in the best universities but after I gave her money she claimed she does not know. She did nothing for my education. She never gave me a copy of our contract but I have her cashed check!!

Sue Bigg : MOST ETHICAL
AUTHOR: RodC - (United States of America)

Ms. Bigg has been, at no charge, providing me with informal information regarding my son for over THREE years without charge. My son is currently 8 years old and a decision about boarding schools is still off in the future. When I asked Ms. Bigg about financial arrangement she simply stated when you son is much older it would be a pleasure to initiate a contract and help him find the right boarding school. Periodically she continues to respond to my questions and lead me in the right direction.
My contact with Ms. Bigg has been wonderful, especially in todays world where people try to take advantage of others so often this was not nor is the case with Ms. Bigg.
I highly recommend her services.

Our positive experience with Sue Bigg

We have used Sue Bigg twice - once when my oldest daughter was looking at colleges and once when my younger daughter was looking at boarding schools. We have found Sue to be highly competent and ethical. She is truly worth her weight in gold. She loves the kids she works for as her own and is lovingly firm with them. Both my daughters ended up in great places. Sue has a gift for what she does and I highly recommend her.
Our experience is that Sue charges a set fee and that fee covers a wide range of services - meeting with your child to learn their strenths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes. Creating a list of schools to apply to and to visit. Support and help through the application process. Help with college essays - Sue does not ghost write the essays, but she does help the applicant select a topic and will proofread. She also gave great advice on interviewing techniques and on what to look for on school visits. The list goes on.
Sue does have a lot of contacts in school admissions. However, the story that she accepted $350 to fly to a convention on Mark's behalf doesn't ring true to me.
Sue has a contract that we both signed and we have always received an executed copy.
We hold Sue in the highest regard. She has been a huge asset to our family.

In defense of Sue Bigg

I hired Sue Bigg to help my son select colleges that would meet his needs and for which he would qualify. Using her familiarity with many colleges and universities, She helped him narrow his choices to five schools, all of which accepted him. I found he service to be invaluable.
I also know that she is an honorable person. If Mark is unhappy with her service, he should talk to her directly. I'm sure she would make an appropriate refund.

But why didn't you do research on the Universities yourself? When I was in HS we didn't have the internet (can you believe that it was only 13 years ago?) So I sent out letters or called for more infomation from the schools.
Why pay someone to do something you can do for free? (And don't even mention scholarships or finacial aid or other thing as they are all easily found on the internet now as well.
I do feel sorry that you lost your money. But at the same time you could have just gone onto the internet to find out exactly what she was promising you.
A lesson learned do not pay someone to do something that you can do for yourself. (Remember that when you are in college and keep getting emails about term papers for sale.)
Good luck to you.
