My SSN was stolen and used to file taxes with taxslayer.com in March 2011.  Whatever their verification system is, if there is one, is not sufficient to catch a thief.

They took no responsibility, and directed me to contact my local police department, like they have anything to do with it.  In January 2012 I received a postcard asking me to use their service again.

How are they supposed to know YOU weren't the identity thief looking to steal the other user's info?

The proper course of action is to go to the authorities. Taxslayer could only get involved once the proper authorities petition them through proper channels for any identifying info, like IP addresses, etc, via court ordered subpoenas, warrants, etc.

Have you gone to the cops, DA or IRS yet? What have any of them told you?
