Texas Comptroller Susan Combs Comptroller Won't Return Unclaimed Property Austin Texas
*Consumer Comment: In all fairness
I work as a Unclaimed Property Finder. I filed claims for my clients along with Power Of Attorney paperwork . The State of Texas Comptroller Office for over one year has refused to pay our claim. They require my client to provide records that are over 15 years old and well past the 5 year statue of limitation. They do not save documents you send them and will require you to send proof over and over again ,as to delay the process . The system is slow and in my opinion a conflict of intrest because they make the rules and hold the money.

What Type of Documentation Will You Be Required to Submit to Prove Ownership?
The unclaimed property claim form includes instructions for completion and provides examples of documentation you are required to provide to prove you are the rightful owner of the property you are claiming.
When we receive your completed claim form and documentation, we review it carefully. If there is not sufficient proof of ownership, we will contact you or the reporting company by mail for additional information. Please allow us 3 to 4 months to review and process your claim. Claims that involve minerals, stocks, estates or other complex issues may take longer. You may contact our office to check on the status of your claim.
Please select the appropriate claim type below to determine which claim form and related documentation you will need to provide.
Original Owner Claim
If you were reported as the owner of this property, you will be filing an Original Owner claim form.
General Claim
If you are a parent/custodian claiming on behalf of a minor or you are the guardian or trustee of the reported owner, you will be filing a General claim form. OR If you are an heir or executor/administrator of the deceased property owner, you will be filing a General claim form.
Business Claim
If you are an officer or official claiming on behalf of a corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship, professional association, non-profit organization, government entity, or private organization, you will be filing a Business claim form.
Multiple Corporate Claim (MCC)
If you are an officer or official claiming on behalf of a major corporation that operates under different names or subsidiaries, rather than using our online search, please email or fax a signed list of the names of all reported entities and your contact information. An MCC form and instructions will be mailed to the corporate address.
How does the claim process work?
The claim form includes instructions for its completion and describes documentation needed in addition to the form. All claim types have general requirements such as:
- copies of standard forms of identification for the owner and for the claimant, if someone other than the original owner is claiming (NOTE: the Comptroller's office cannot mail back original documents; please send copies only.)
- verification of the reported address if different than the current address
- death certificate and probated will or other heirship documents if the original owner is deceased
- specific documentation according to the type of property such as a bank statement, insurance policy, the original uncashed check, etc.
Please complete, sign and return the claim form with a copy of your identification even if you are unable to provide all requested documents. In some cases we are able to determine ownership based on the available information you are able to provide.
When we receive your completed claim form, we review it carefully. If there is not sufficient proof of ownership, we may contact you or the reporting institution for further information.
