My husband was contacted by a person (foriegn) that stated we were gauranteed to recieve grant money in the amount of $5,000. He told him all he had to do was pay for the packet, sum of which was $199.95.

This voice on the phone proceeded to ask if we had a checking account, my husband answered yes. once that was established he asked for the information on the check. all information given He (my spouse) was informed that once the money was withdrawn a packet would be mailed to him in two weeks.

Well, money was withdrawn, time has passed, no packet. we are compramised.

What do we do now?

scam what to do

AUTHOR: Tom - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 20, 2005

They are a scam. First I would move my money into a checking account with a different number so no further money can be withdrawn. Second, if it has only been a few days you might get the bank to stop pay on the withdrawal, but since it has happened, with your approval, it may be difficult to get it back. Good luck though.
