Beverly Karshner and the staff at The Notter School of Pastry Arts are lying, manipulative and unprofessional. As a former employee at the school, they hired me on with promises of huge expansion and advancements. This school has the dreams of ivy league notoriety, but in reality is a sham for a school. There practices include hiding behind the phone calls and closed doors and ducking anyone they owe money to. As an employee there I was never placed on payroll and was stated that " they just didn't get around to it yet". While answering the phones I received countless calls from bill collectors demanding payments for services as far as six- nine months back. How can a school promise prestige and exclusivity, but under the surface has the appearance of an impending bankruptcy? After deciding that this was not a company I wanted to associate with, I turned in my letter of resignation. Giving them just cause and ample time to find and train a replacement, they opt to use me for the remainder of the day and toss me out at the close of the day. Upon leaving a requested information on my final pay and was said to be "assuming that they were not going to pay". I notified them that if I did not receive my paycheck on the first like I was supposed to that I would not be able to pay rent and my 2 yr old daughter and I would be evicted. Over a week after my eviction notice and countless calls and emails I have yet to get paid and am on the verge of being tossed on the street. They hide behind every excuse not to pay anyone for there services. This company is a scandalous and deceitful company be aware that if you work there YOU WILL NOT GET PAID!!!!!!!

Eviction

AUTHOR: Kwtrucks - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 15, 2012

I find it hard to believe that a person facing an eviction of himself and 2 year old would resign,,,I dont care how bad a place it is. You have to tough it out until you get another paying job.

You stay employed till the date your check is supposed to be given. They will listen to a current employee asking for his check rather than an ex-employee

Great Place to be

AUTHOR: Max - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, October 15, 2012

anyone can see through this - read between the line - this is a great school

Ill i can say is that anyone with common value can seen someone dishonest  is trying to hurt all of us that goes to Notter School. If even half of these items were true - they would be goon. The state of Florida would not let people not get paid . I am at the school everyday and see only happy staff members .

Ms. Karshner is a great person - as is all at Notter School - rally - Ewald is a owner he to would pay people . that what ownership is. I know I have had many areas that needed help with and Ms.Karshner has always done over and above!

Thanks Ms. Karshner - keep doing a great job! nice to see someone that really cares !

A huge scam and waste of money

AUTHOR: Missy - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, September 10, 2012

I completed the European Baking and Pastry program at Notter and while I agree that Ewald is truly one of the best people one could ever meet, these reports are dead on regarding Beverly.  She is a complete scam artist, as are the (always revolving) school representatives/office employees.  The man who gave me a tour of the school before I began classes out right LIED to me to get me to sign up there.  He promised me a high paying job after completion and guaranteed me placement.  He, and other employees, consistently boasted of a 98% placement rate.  I graduated with a 4.0 and over a year and a half later I HAVE YET to find a job - and the school is no help at all.  Their job placement consists of forwarding emails from job websites, which I can do on my own.  As a matter of fact, none of the students I graduated with have found work, and we are all now $23,000 in debt with student loans!

Beyond my personal beef with the school, I believe the original poster 100% about his not being paid.  I became personal friends with a couple of different chef instructors while attending Notter, and I know for an absolute fact that one of them did not receive his pay as promised.  This person is a somewhat well known and very respectable chef and was duped by Beverly - she used this person's friendship with Ewald to swindle him into taking the teaching position.  It's so sad.  Ewald is going to have his reputation ruined by this woman, if he hasn't already!

Notter School of Pastry Arts

AUTHOR: Ifyouonlyknew - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, September 10, 2012

I attended the Notter school of pastry arts and there is more that meets the eye besides Beverly Karshner's stupidity with managing a business this school promised me so much, financial aid reps were getting tired of me always complaining and quite frankly if they didn't meet my needs like h**l i was going to not confront them, my family has own their business for over 12 years and not once was there a problem that didn't have a solution. mind you there's solutions and there's Notter solutions in which its staff would prolong the days that the solution was needed making it more frustraiting. Example.....Financial aid was in the process of helping me relocate closer to the school and when they fail to meet me half way thing were getting harder for me on my days off i would head there to discuss this matter and they told me "in order for you to get any assistance, you would have to attend class for 2 consecutive weeks'' the only reason they said that was they didn't want to give me any money until my funds were in so they got their money and so would I.  what a Croc, i have finally opened my own business and will do all in my power to sue them and advertise in my family and all our associates only the truth of the notter school of pastry arts.

Notter school

AUTHOR: scott - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 04, 2012

The payment problem isn't the school or Notter himself its Beverly. She for some reason wants to ruin the school even though without she is and has nothing. So do not blame Notter or the school they both are great, blame her. Shes the reason all of this is happening, if it were up to Notter he would have paid everyone and none of this would be happening. He is a really great guy.

COMPLETE RIP OFF ARTIST

AUTHOR: MISSIEMAMA09 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, October 13, 2011

I'm not sure who Beverly Karshner has hired to write all of these great and awesome things about her ethics and business practices, but it's not fooling the LARGE number of employees and others you CONTINUE to rip off.  What employee has been there over 4 months other than the chefs? This woman sells dreams and lies all day long.

She calls the cops on any employee showing up for money she owes them.  This lady is an embarrassment to the educational industry.

Every 2 weeks she has a new set of admission reps. Employees either quits or she fires them for no apparent reason.  She manipulates the employees against each other.

Chef Notter however, is one of the greatest individuals you could ever meet.  If he doesn't wake up his reputation is going to be as dirty as Beverly Karshner and her right hand girl Amy Kilpatrick.

Whatever GOOD reports you are ready please disregard. She has paid well for them.

Just a plain lie

AUTHOR: notterschoolofscamarts - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 05, 2011

I am sure the person who write these rebuttals are telling a lie. i don't think they have had an employee work there past 2 months.    i worked there for 3 weeks and I am still waiting on my check.  The company wrote me a check that bounced.  Beverly Karshner and Amy Kilpatrick are scam artists.  Notter could be a great place but the evil, mean, deceitful Beverly needs to leave the company.  Vendors do call the office consistantly about past due bills.  They even show up for past due bills.  Employees are always coming to the job requesting their checks.  Beverly and amy hide in the office and sent the flunky employees to deal with the employee then treaten to call the police.  i would not go to the Notter or work for them because they are just plain unethical.  they will cross the wrong person one and the business will go up in smoke.

I worked there for 4 months they paid me for everything I did for them Got every check. So I think this person that said they didn't get paid is Lying to get publicity for  there self or to hurt the school reputation because they got fired for not doing anything sitting around collecting a check.

Excellent experience

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, October 02, 2011

I signed up for a class at the Notter School and was a bit concerned about some of the negative reviews that I read prior to attending. I finished the class yesterday and can report the following. The office staff was courteous, friendly and efficient. The class was excellent (taught by Ewald Notter) and ranks in quality with four classes that I have taken at The Culinary Institute of America, (Hyde Park, NY) and one at The French Culinary Institute (New York, NY).

My overall impression of Chef Notter is that he his committed to his art and students. His enthusiasm for his subject is contagious. He was very solicitous, which was evidenced by his willingness to add content to the class if a student was interested in something that wasn't covered by the lesson plan. The class had an excellent balance between chef demonstrations and hands-on activities and a lot was covered in three days. I would not hesitate to take another class at this school.

Obviously, I cannot speak for other peoples' experiences but after reading some of the comments I felt compelled to provide some balance based on my own personal experience.

Easy to believe the employee not the employer

AUTHOR: Maxine - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 30, 2011

I believe this employee!  Why?  Because every time I tried to find out where my refund of unused tuition money was, I was told on the phone, that they (all the head honchos) were in a meeting, I was told to give the more time.  They had 30 days to reimburse me and didn't until 46 days and after I had to come to the school and throw a holy fit and cry and then continue on to the local Courthouse.  I had been given such a runaround.  I do believe they hide behind phone calls and doors and there is more to their deception than what we see.  I do not believe this employee was saying anything out of line.

Responce to Mr. Camarto

AUTHOR: Notter Schoo - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, February 06, 2010

The Notter School of Pastry Arts prides itself in the true and proven quality of its education and training programs as well as the positive environment it provides for its employees. The management of the School strives to create an atmosphere that allows each individual to develop his or her abilities to the greatest extent possible.   The School recognizes that each employee constitutes an integral part of the Notter School community as a whole, and as such, values each employee for his or her role in the proper functioning of that community.  For example, Notter School works with its employees to accommodate their schedules whenever possible. In Mr. Camaratos situation in particular, the management of the Notter School of Pastry Arts granted Mr. Camaratos repeated requests to adjust his work schedule so he could attend to his own needs.

Mr. Camarato was employed for a very short duration, and was still being trained in his position when he chose to leave. On December 29, 2009 Mr. Camarato submitted a resignation letter. Notter School accepted Mr. Camaratos resignation the same day. Therefore, at the close of business on December 29, 2009  Mr. Camaratos employment with the school ended.

Mr. Camaratos position at the school did not involve handling accounts payable or dealing with vendors in this manner, nor was he in any way involved in managing or monitoring Notter Schools financial matters. Therefore, he could not or should not have received any of the alleged vendor telephone calls he described in his posting.  Furthermore, Notter Schools financial condition was and continues to be in excellent shape, as opposed to his representations to the contrary.

Mr. Camarato was paid in full for the entire time he worked at the Notter School of Pastry Arts and was paid in accordance with the requirements of Florida and Federal law.  Notter School deeply regrets the current circumstances in which Mr. Camarato and his family find themselves. His situation, however, is not in any way attributable to the actions of the Notter School of Pastry Arts.  It is truly a shame that he has decided to engage in this libelous and defamatory posting after resigning from his position.  The information he has placed on this site is a fabrication and complete misrepresentation of the events surrounding his employment and departure from the company. To respect his privacy, the company declines to go into any further detail. Nonetheless, the schools management hopes that Mr. Camarato finds a prompt resolution to his circumstances and wishes him the best in his future endeavors.
