 Beware doing business with Ann Stanbra - The Self Directed Leader Read this before doing business with Ann Stanbra - The Self Directed Leader From one business owner to another – get paid upfront if you’re going to do business with Ann Stanbra (The Self Directed Leader) When this business opportunity first came to me, I was very upfront in the description of my business, the key elements that would contribute to success and my pricing model for the project which included the first draft of copy for The Self Directed Leader website and 2 rounds of revisions. Ann Stanbra – aka Annie DeMilo - approved and understood that while SEO can help drive the success of a website, no SEO provider can or should give a 100% guarantee on any businesses success.

After months of multiple revisions that exceeded our estimate, I continued to work through the copy issues with Ann Stanbra without revising the estimate. At this point, Ann admitted how prone to change she is – even with her own business – The Self-Directed Leader. She found this fact rather amusing. It goes without saying that you can’t provide someone with what they need if they don’t even know what it is they need or want in the first place so I worked with her as best I could to help her arrive at some decisions. The project was delayed on several occasions due to Ann’s other projects and commitments. Deadlines for her responses weren’t met which affected my schedule and other projects I was working on. In order to stay on track – I was constantly following up via phone and email at no extra charge to Ann. We would arrange appointments and Ann wouldn’t show up – no phone call or email to warn me. Ann demonstrated no respect or regard for my time. When the project finally started to move again, Ann was very pleased with the revisions, even stating “Looking good! Only a picky one or two changes per page.” She constantly made revisions to her revisions. This turned into multiple changes and again – I did not revise the estimate to encompass the vast number of revisions that have already exceeded our agreed upon ‘2 rounds of revisions’.

On top of this, I had offered to help her rank higher in search engines by using Google Places however she never passed on the pertinent information that I needed to get her set up. In addition to going above and beyond for Ann and doing countless hours of FREE work for her in order to get her site up and in good ranking with Google, I even uploaded all the content to her site at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. Imagine the challenge of getting to this point with a client whose business plan changes daily? So in the end, the site was up and on the first page of Google for a number of agreed upon key terms which is a great success given that it hadn’t previously received any rankings. I was hired to write SEO friendly copy. Not only did I deliver above and beyond, I stood by her, provided advice and never increased the estimate to encompass the constantly changing scope of work. Today, Ann Stranbra doesn’t feel she should have to pay for the balance of my services as stated in the sales agreement that she signed. She claims to withhold payment until she ranks FIRST PAGE on Google. Ironically, she did receive first page ranking for a number of her terms however she is still withholding payment. I believe in helping small business and feel we are all in the same boat just struggling to get our brands to be a success and therefore, we help each other as a community of entrepreneurs and small business owners. Sadly, Ann Stanbra (The Self Directed Leader) does not share these convictions.
