I brought a saw to the UPS Store #0075 to be packaged and shipped out to one of my customers. At the time I was i8nside of the store they could not give me the cost of packaging the saw for shipment. They told me that they would call me to let me know how much it will cost. A few hours later I received a phone call and they told me it was going to be $170.78 to package the saw. This amount did not include the cost of shipping as this would be billed directly to my UPS account. I declined their offer and went to the UPS store to package the saw myself. When I was finished packaging the saw and prepared the shipping label for the package I was told that I needed to take the package out of their store and ship it elsewhere. There was absolutely no reason for them to deny my package from being picked up by UPS, they were mad because I did not allow them to package the saw for shipment and pay them such a ridiculous amount. I packaged the saw and the total cost out of my pocket was only $13.95 which was the cost to purchase the box needed to fit the saw inside. I saved myself a huge amount of money by packaging the item myself. Save yourself alot of money and have someone other than the UPS store package your items for shipment

If you use recycled packaging materials it really helps both the wallet and the earth. Go green and save!!! I will let you know when my package arrives to the buyer and I will let you know how the saw arrived to the buyer even though I have shipped over 1000 items both big and small size packages and I am well aware of the damage UPS can cause during transit. With my experience I can pretty much guarantee that the package will arrive to the buyer safe and sound but then again there is always that 3% chance that something out of the ordinary is always possible but then again I will keep you posted!

The saw was package appropriately and as a matter of fact the saw was placed and strapped down onto a wooden pallet and then placed in the appropriate size box with tons of bubble wrap, styrofoam and insulated packing paper which was used to fill the space between the box and the saw.
- And you got ALL of that for $13.95...Wow.

As I said I hope that the saw does get to your customer undamaged.  So I hope that you come back here and update this report when it arrives safely.

The saw was package appropriately and as a matter of fact the saw was placed and strapped down onto a wooden pallet and then placed in the appropriate size box with tons of bubble wrap, styrofoam and insulated packing paper which was used to fill the space between the box and the saw.

The UPS store had explained to me that they would have to use two boxes and put them together in order to pack the saw. I was able to package the saw in a very durable box with the appropriate dimensions for the saw and pallet. The package weighed a total of 125 lbs and was 24x24x45 in its dimensions.

Being a small boned female I was able to pack the saw with a friend of mine without any problems at all and we were able to package the saw quickly and efficiently.

The real issue regarding the UPS store is not even there excessive cost to package the item but there customer service was not as it should have been when representing the company name UPS.

When the package was ready for shipment the women working at the UPS store told me that the UPS carrier worker said that they could not ship the package because it was not packed appropriately and that I needed to take it from their store. The funny thing is that the item was packaged inside of the box so the UPS carrier worker did not even know how the item was packaged inside. I took my packaged saw from the UPS store and brought it home after scheduling a pick up with UPS the next following day and they came and picked up the package without any hesitation at all.

The other thing I forgot to mention was when I had originally brought the saw in for The UPS Store to package it the lady working there asked me how much I got the saw for snd how much I sold it for therefore she knew that I have a pretty nice profit margin so she basically was going to take advantage of the situation and try to profit a ridiculous amount by charging me such an excessive amount to package the item. I already caught on to this and when they called me to tell me how much the it would cost for them to package the saw I was not going to allow her to rob me by charging me way more than was necessary for the saw to be packaged.

I really hope that your saw gets to your customer undamaged.  But I would not be surprised if another "RipOff" gets posted on how UPS damaged the saw in shipment and is denying the claim based on improper packaging.

You didn't mention the weight or size of this saw, or what type of packaging the $170 consisted of.  So it is impossible to tell if that amount was excessive or not.  But..and that is a big BUT if you just stuck it in the box and shipped it without any other packaging it sure sounds like you are asking for trouble.  Don't be surprised if your customer does not like what they receive, which by the time they get it may be a saw in more pieces than it is supposed to be in.

By the way I am not a fan of the UPS store and know that some have a tendency to "over package" items in order to pad the bill, but as I said there is not enough information to even guess if this is a case like that or not.  But you also can't go "cheap" in your packaging and then expect that if there is damage to have it covered.
