Thrifty Car Rental % Subrogation Management Team ripoff Greer South Carolina

On 12/15/04 I received a claim for $10,558.69 from Subrogation Management Team, L.L.C. (SMT) representing Thrifty Car Rental, for Physical Damage, Loss of use, and Diminution of value, administrative fee and towing and storage of a rental car that I rented on 05/11/03 for a week and purchased their "Property Damage Waiver" (PDW). I rented the car for a week and during the week I had an accident and damaged the car for which I was given a 2 point driving too fast for conditions ticket. I immediately notified Thrifty Car Rental and they took things over from there. They told me that I need not worry about anything since the PDW covered all the damages to the car. The cost of the PDW was $ 16.95 / day for a total of $118.60.

As stated above, on 12/15/04 I received a claim for $ 10,558.69 for the car with notice that if I did not pay they would seek measures to collect the dept through a collection agency. I received two harassing phone calls from SMT. I asked them why they were charging me and they said that since I received a ticket for the accident, that the insurance would not pay for the car and that "I was responsible for all loss regardless of fault".

I will quote the rental agreement which states " I know that if I decline the option PDW, I am responsible for all loss regardless of fault". I did not decline the option. I bought it because I did not want to bare the cost of the vehicle should anything happen to it. I paid $118.60 for that assurance. Get it? I did not decline the option.

I did not misuse the vehicle in any way such as drunk driving or off road travel.

I am being ripped off. Go get them!
