On Sunday, January 17th we inquired on HomeAdvisor.com for a roofer to replace our roof.  Home Advisor claims to screen their vendors before they can advertise.  We unfortunately, trusted Home Advisor had done as they said.  We were sadly mistaken.  Home Advisor paired us with Lealta Construction Services, LLC.  A man who identified himself as Lee Torrone contacted us immediately and offered to bid our roof.  He was very nice, seemed knowledgeable and followed up immediately.  On Monday January 18th he visited our home and inspected the roof.  On Tuesday, January 19th he emailed us a quote for $5588.35 to complete the job of replacing our roof.  We collected bids from two other companies we were referred to by other friends and his bid was the lowest and he constantly followed up with us, so we chose to hire Lee with Lealta Construction Services, LLC.

On March 16th my husband, Brian, met with Lee and signed a contract and wrote a check for $4088 for materials, etc.  The remaining balance of $1950.35 was due to Lee upon completion of the assignment.

On Monday, March 21st two men stopped by our house and said they worked for Lee.  He was on vacation, but they were going to measure the roof and get started on it right away.  One of the men, John, gave me his phone number for any questions.  I never heard from them again so on the evening of Tuesday, March 22nd I called the number John gave me and he said they were waiting on supplies, they would be back on Wednesday.

On Monday, March 28th, the roofers finally showed up and began tearing the shingles off our roof.  They worked until late in the evening and removed nearly all the shingles.  They showed up on Tuesday, March 29th and continued to work.  They requested a check because additional materials were needed.  We wrote them a check for $800 and they provided us with a receipt.  We didn’t hear from them again.  On Wednesday, March 30th we had a terrible rain storm and our roof leaked.  We contacted Lee right away and he came over to “fix” the roof so it wouldn’t’ leak anymore. Nearly every room in our house has water damage on the ceiling.  Lee took complete responsibility for the damage and promised to repair any damage done once the project was completed at no additional charge.

On Friday, April 1st, the roofers showed up again and did more work.  This time, they left the place a mess, with nails and shingles (plus soda bottles and candy trash) all over our back deck and yard.  Our children (ages 3 and 5) and dogs play in the backyard and could easily have stepped on any of the nails.

We didn’t hear from Lee again, so on Tuesday, April 5th Brian text Lee and Lee said he had a funeral and would be heading out to continue to work.  Lee did not show up on Tuesday as stated.  He text again to say they ran low on materials and would be back Wednesday, April 6th to finish the job.

On Wednesday, April 6th a woman who called herself Donna and claimed to be the Office Manager for the construction company stopped by our home. She said that if we would write HER a check for the remaining balance on the agreement, she would make sure the roof was completed.  She stated that her paychecks had been bouncing and she wasn’t getting paid and had hoped we could just pay her directly.  She also called Lee by the name of Tim.  This was the first time we ever heard the name Tim used.

On Wednesday, around 1:00 p.m. we still hadn’t seen Lee.  Brian text again to see where he was.  He said they would be coming today and bringing Killz to spray our ceilings and repair the water damage.  When we returned home Wednesday night, all Lee’s ladders, dump truck and tools were gone.  He had taken everything with him.  We attempted to contact him again on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and he didn’t return any calls or text messages.  At that point we informed him via text that we had hired another company to complete the job because he refused to return any calls or texts.  The new company we’ve hired has informed us the workmanship of the job was extremely poor. One example, they only used 2-3 nails per shingle, where 5 should actually had been used.  We are now paying the new company to not only complete the job, but to repair the work that had previously been done.  We are also having to pay out of pocket for the water damage to the ceiling.

At this point we realized that something wasn’t right.  We contacted an attorney who discovered that Lee Torrone didn’t actually exist.  His real name was Tim Mundy.  He had been involved in several other construction companies with his wife Sierra (Turner) Mundy.  He had several lawsuits filed and one pending for doing the same thing to other people.  He has been involved with several construction companies including TSA Construction Services, Mundy Construction Services and Hartland Home Restoration.  Tim went so far to deceive us with the name Lee Torrone, he even created a fake Facebook account for Lee.  The contract we signed also has Lee’s name listed.  Had we have known Tim’s real name, we would never of hired him.  A simple google search revealed he has MULTIPLE felonies for fraud, writing bad checks, theft and trespassing .  We realize we will probably never recover the money we lost due to Tim’s scam, but we want everyone to be aware of his scam so it doesn’t happen to anyone again.

Below are additional people who have been scammed by Tim Mundy.  One as recent as last month.  He also used the same name, Lee Torrone with them.
