On February 17th 2010 I came across an ad for an ibookG4 mac laptop for $200 being sold by Arianna Livingston. The ad was very descriptive, and included photos of everything.

I emailed Arianna immediately and said I was interested.. this is her response:

Hi, I am getting back to you regarding the 14" iBook G4 from Craigslist

My name is Arianna and I am now in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom.
I am selling the 14" iBook G4, with 1.42 Ghz G4 processor, 1 Gb memory, 120 Gb HD for $200 USD. I have attached some pics so you can see the condition of the laptop. If you want I can send some more pics.
The laptop is still available and I hope you are still interested. This iBook was ordered brand new directly from Apple on May 1st, 2006.
About the laptop I can say it is 3 years old and it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $200 price is everything the laptop came with when it was new, including the original manuals.
I tried to be a thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
I have the laptop with me.
I have used the laptop mostly for internet browsing and presentations, so I would say it has been only lightly used.
The laptop has the Leopard 10.5.7 OS, the iLife 09 and the MS Office 2009 with the original recovery disks included.
One more thing, the laptop is an US version and it works on the US power and plug system so you do not need a converter to use it in the US.

Please get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop if you're really interested in buying it.

Arianna,

It sounds just like the one I have... I have Mac OS X 10.9 on mine, but I don't think it's that big of a difference..

If you are in the United Kingdom with it, how would we do this?? Would you have to ship it to me?? I am a little nervous paying you without having the Ibook directly in my hands..

I do want it.. I need it desperately.. I"m spending money that is my son's birthday money because he and I need a computer that works as my livelihood depends on me having a good computer.. so I can't afford to be scammed or have anything wrong with the deal... Please understand I am not saying you are trying to do that.. just protecting myself..

Let me know how we would work the transaction??

I look forward to hearing back from you..

Her response to me:

Hi

I found a way to sell you the laptop that will cover the both of us. It's a worldwide delivery company called TNT. They have a service that will allow you to test the laptop before I receive my payment.
Please go to the TNT website below and read their procedure so we can be on the same page:

http://www.eutnt.com/tnt.express.wolverhampton.depot.overseas.transactions/

I will pay the TNT shipping fee.

Thanks.

My response once I checked out the website:

Arianna,

It mentioned on the website, something about not being able to cover digital items?? Could you double check to be sure they can cover a computer?

I will find a western union near me so I can wire the money once I know TNT can handle a computer..

Thank you,

Her response back:
Hi Judi

The cover computers.
OK, perfect. Let's agree to the terms of our deal now.
I will sell you the laptop for $200 with everything in the pictures included, I will use 2 day delivery and allow you 5 days to inspect it. Shipping is on me. Your total price will be the $200 for the laptop + the western union fee. So, do we have a deal? At this point I need your name and address to start the deal.

Thanks.

my response:

Arianna,

Sounds good...

Her response:
Hi

I sent the laptop earlier today. The TNT clerk said that they will inspect the laptop and then send you 2 notifications, one with the details of the merchandise - in our case the laptop and one with the instructions on what to do next.
Be sure to add customerdepartment@eutnt.com to your safe list.

Thanks.

FYI I received both TNT's notifications. Please confirm that you have received them as well.

Thanks

My response on Feb 19th:
Hi...  I did receive the notifications.. I have the answer to my question to them regarding how to do the payment, and will be going to Western Union tomorrow to pay.. would have gone today but had somewhere to be all day...

Thank you again,

That's the last I heard from her or TNT... I emailed both of them a few times asking for update on status and have had no response at all..

I was buying this for my 8yr old son and I to use with his saved birthday money. I'm so disgusted with myself for not checking TNT out further, as I would have seen this report site and known it was a scam.. I trusted an online company and know now to not accept websites at face value.

I am pursuing this legally, as I feel I can't just accept that I lost my son's birthday money ( money I can't easily replace, but will now sell what I have and can to recover it for him). I want justice and to bring this to everyone's attention.. I am placing an ad on craigslist exposing this scam as well..
