Town and Country Jeep uses deceptive sales practices. My mother was in need of a new vehicle and asked me to help locate one for her. We found a used van online which was advertised for $14,999. It was located in New York (we are in Pennsylvania) but things looked good online and sounded good when she spoke to the salesperson over the phone. She travelled 125 miles (nearly 3 hours) to view the car and, happy with what she saw, decided to buy it. They gave her the royal runaround and after being at the dealership for nearly 5 hours told her that they would only sell her the van at the advertised price if she used their financing. She is getting on in years and after the long drive and even longer sales experience she ended up signing the paperwork. She was also oversold on an extended warranty. Her $15K bargain will end up costing her $25K. She isn't even allowed to refinance until 7 months worth of payments have been made.
This dealership is sleazy to work like this. I'm not even sure if what they did is legal although I do intend to find out and will probably sue them if it isn't. Avoid these creeps like the plague.

First thing I did, upon hearing the story, was to obtain a copy of the paperwork. There is, unfortunately, a specific form she signed that agrees to retain the financing for a minimum of seven consecutive monthly payments and a minimum of 215 days. There is also another form detailing a $2000 penalty if the extended service contract is cancelled.

Don't wait to pay off this loan

The dealership told her she couldn't refi or pay off the loan for 7 months because they get a back end commission off the financing they placed for her. This is common in the industry. Sounds like this dealership is trying to protect their commission.
Read the loan paperwork. I bet dollars to donuts that there is no prohibition to paying off the loan right away. I have never seen a paragraph that prohibits early payoff - either a direct payoff or a refinance. Pay it off as soon as possible and you will do two things:
1) Get better terms - most likely
2) The sleazy sales rep loses his commission on the finance part of the sale. In my eyes, that's a good thing.
One more point: cancel that expensive auto warranty right away. They have to refund you the unused portion. It can be applied to your loan balance to reduce it and then refi immediately. :)
