I bought a small lock box on sale and after opening the box noticed the lock was missing. I returned it for a refund and was told by a female manager that I had removed the lock myself.  I thought it was a joke and was told the second time that I had removed it and wanted to return the box for a refund.  I told her I had not removed the lock and was told I was a liar in front of 4 customers.  I told her to keep it and walked out of the store never to return to one of their stores.

Called a liar in public

AUTHOR: Hal B. - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 01, 2010

The lock box I bought was a closeout item and they had none for replacement.

I did not ask for a refund but a credit because in the past I bought a lot from this store.  In fact I was in there buying a tool box for a work pickup.

I even went as far as calling the company and reporting the female but the company called back and said they were sorry.  All those people who were there now think the old man might be a theif.

I have been a store owner for many years and ONE thing you never do is call a customer a liar and for sure you do not do it in front of other customers and employees.  Yes people purchase things and try to return them and sometimes you have to refund them even if you know they did because you can't prove they did.

I am a 75 year old native of this area and to this day I have no idea what I would do with a lock the size of a dime that fits a lock box.

Robert I do not remember you beoing there and before trying to solve this matter I suggest you get the facts. PLEASE don't stand on the shore and tell me how deep the water is?

Thank you,

Bob R.

You originally bought the box, so we can presume that you wanted it.  So why did you try to get a refund?  Why didn't you just do an exchange for a box with a lock..or just get another lock out of another box?    But in addition to not asking for an exchange you just left it there?

I am not saying that you did this but it is a very common scam for someone to buy something with multiple parts.  They would remove one of the items, in this case the lock.  Then instead of going to the store to exchange it for a full set, they just want to "return" it.  In effect they get what ever they needed for free, leaving the store/manufacturer on the hook for the "missing" pieces.   So while her attitude was not right if that is not what you were doing, that is probably the reason you got that attitude.
