Transam Trucking numerous problems with pay being short as much as $450.00. payroll clerks found situation funny. Olathe Kansas
* : My TransAm story
Did not know I had a negative remark on DAC report until I applied for a job. Recruiter for job stated that Transam rep informed them that I had quit and had violated company policy. After my check was short for the fourth time in 3 months, I spoke with payroll and was given wrong information about my trip pak. I gave a two week notice, however, I was routed to the yard and release one week early. I was told that my two week notice would be honored. There was no mention of violating company policy at any time. There was no disciplinary action, verbal or otherwise. How can a company do this to someone who delivered every load on time?

My TransAm story
AUTHOR: Rollover - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, August 16, 2009
This story is a common one with TransAm and some other
companies. Even happened to me on the pay being short and on more than one
occasion!
I started with TA in Nov of 03, Got a 19000 series POS err Truck. Straight into
the shop for repairs. Was promised a truck with a Rigmaster APU by Johnnie himself during his
"interview" but it didn't come around for 2 months! I did have my
computer and all in one printer in the truck and always made copies of all of
my paperwork which became a pay saver due to the idiots in the office and yes I
said IDIOTS.
I started noticing shortages on my pay stubs and when my wife called me to tell
me that my PC was only $200.00 I had her email me he stub and there was a whole
run missing. I called the office and I was told that the BOL's were not in my
Trip Pak. Well no problem there little lady whats your email address and I'll
send it to you in less that a minute! Her response was OH, I can't do it that
way. (techno driver here folks, and an old one at that!) I told her if TA did it
when they emailed me the application and took it back that way, she could too,but
that's no problem, whats your fax # and I'll send it to you from the truck,
it'll just cost me the buck ninety charge. That didn't go well with her but she
wound up giving me the email addy and TA put it on my Comm Data card that day!
Then several weeks later it happens again. More missing runs on the PC. We go
through the same dance routine several times. I wound up writing a not so pleasant
letter to Mr. Johnnie and sent it registered mail so I know the man got it but
never got a reply as if I really thought he would bother! Now I'll give you all
a bit of advice about proper paperwork routines.. Do it the same way every
time! Screw the guy behind you at the fuel island unless you parked and took a
shower or ate dinner or sat on the pot to long then get in the truck and run
away as fast as you can knowing the guy behind you might be a tad bit pissed!
Kidding aside, get back in the truck after doing ANYTHING that has ANY paper
attached to it and as soon as you get back in the truck get your trip Pak or Log
sheet for the run and WRITE IT DOWN then PUT IT IN THE ENVELOPE! It's that
simple. I've done it for over 20 years after being lazy for the first 10! DO
NOT THROW IT ON THE DASH OR FLOOR! Put it in the bag and it can't get lost.
Don't even put it in your log book as it can and will disappear! Do it the same
way every time. Treat that paper like it is money because it is! Toll tickets
well those you just have to put on the clipboard till you stop! OOPS!
Back to TA, I was in the yard and got my pay info and noticed that another run
was missing and I go to the tiny window in the office and politely ask payroll
why I was short again and the answer was "the trip pak didn't come
in." Ok and I head over to safety and ask about the logs for those days
and lo and behold guess what...did you guess yet?...they have them! Like it's a
miracle! So I go the OTHER way around to payroll(you drivers know where Im
coming from) to the lady who handles it and I again politely ask her about that
day and I get the same answer and when I put both hands on her desk and lean across
it and quietly tell her she's full of it because safety has the logs that were
in the SAME trip pak and I expect to see a comm check in about 30 minutes all
hell breaks loose! She has Johnnie there and Johnnies boyfriend Ron , Rob or
whoever and when I tell the story and then tell them I do my paperwork the same
way every time and if they ever find ANY paper missing from my trip pak to
ether send me a F*****G QC or call me on the cell! Thats when I'm told that
"oh, we don't notify the drivers until the P/W is missing for 2
weeks" and I just stood there with a dead dog look on my face and I roll
my eyes up into my head as it to say "WHAT MORONS"! But I said it out
loud. "I know you people don't need the money right then and there but I
sure do!" And I looked at Mr. Johnnie and told him the same thing I did in
the letter, that I don't work for free and if another check was short because
you want to hold on to it then I can darn sure park the truck 40 miles away
from the point where I cover the transponder until you decide to find it!
I wasn't fired but I called my old company that I had to wait 2 years to go
back to work for due to my lead foot and when they said I could come back I
sent TA 2 (TWO) REGISTERED letters both of them notarized, 1 of them to Johnny,
telling them I was voluntarily terminating my job with them and giving them the
required 2 weeks notice, and as soon as I saw they were signed for them I sent
the QC message telling them the same thing.
The moral of this long and drawn out story is, TA WILL try to screw you! With
TA it's CYA! Make copies of ALL of your paperwork! When you go to quit ANY
COMPANY don't just do it on the QC or phone (unless you can tape it) Send a notarized
and registered letter (keep a copy!) that way these horror stories cant come
back to haunt you! Copies of PAPERWORK is what a judge will want to see when it
come time to go the legal way to get your pay! And it also helps in any
conflicts with DAC/USIS/HireRight or what ever they call themselves this month!
TA only put on my DAC that I had a satisfactory work history with them! But I
will say that they did get me home when requested every time on time! Thats the
ONLY good thing I can say about them!
Oh, me, I lasted working for TA 11 months and 2 weeks. I forfeited my 1 year bonus and vacation pay just to get away from them!
