I too have less than perfect credit and went on line to try and find a personal loan. I was contacted by Suzanne Riley from Treasury Financial Group. She claimed that she had found a lender for a $10,000 loan that I had requested. She said that due to my imperfect credit I could either obtain a co-signer or pay Fine Line Insurance $1190.00 to insure my loan. I was to pay the $1190.00 by Western Union to Accounts Receivable: Michelle Samuel - Expected Location: Toronto, Canada. I was to then receive my loan via wire in 2 days time between 10am - 2pm.

I received a message on my home phone on Wednesday, Oct.4th at 11:00am saying that prior to wiring the loan they needed to verify my routing and account number to my bank. I called back but was unable to get anyone. Finally, Friday Oct. 6th I spoke to a Angela Simmons and gve my bank information. They now have my social Security number, Driver's license and all vital info!

Angela assured me that the funds would be available that day between 12pm and 6pm and to call her back on Monday, Oct. 9th to verify that I received the funds.

Well, it's Saturday - make that Sunday now and no funds have arrived.

This situation angers me for myself and all others that have been taken advantage of. I'm going to contact all of the agencies that I need to in order to protect myself from this point on as well as Western Union. Thanks for those tips!

I'm faxing them a letter requesting my refund and venting my frustration although I imagine that it won't do me a bit of good!

Hopefully, something can be done to stop people like these!!!!

This is a long time scam

AUTHOR: Aafes - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 21, 2006

This is a long time scam. If you search the internet you will find many, many complaints of the same scam being perpetrated as well as investigations by law enforcement that have resulted in little, if any prosecution.

Western Union was involved in a lawsuit regarding these scams a few years ago and the resultant penalty was simply that they must "educate" their consumers regarding "Advance fee loan scams".

Thus, the scam has evolved into your sending the "insurance" money to an individual rather than a company name. This effectively removes the appearance of an advance fee loan from the picture for Western Union.

These scam artists set up a phony website, utilize disposable cell phones and move quickly from location to location. Utilizing Canada is a very effective tool for them as they are technically out of the jurisdiction of U.S. Law enforcement and complaints from U.S. citizens typically fall on deaf ears across international borders. It is also a benefit as there are several toll free number combinations, that if they are checked, simply result in a US/Canada location with no other information.

These scam artists will typically operate in an area for a few weeks and move on once they feel pressure to do so.

Western Union/Moneygram are utilized as money sent to an individual may be picked up anywhere worldwide regardless of the location it was to be sent to.

A reputable lender will NEVER expect an advance fee for insurance or otherwise.

The Western Union "runner"

AUTHOR: Kelly - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 20, 2006

Im pretty sure I was also ripped off by the same people. The only difference is they went by the name of "ALPHA FINANCIAL FOUNDATIONS". I sent a Western Union of $850 to Michelle Samuels. With my husband being a police officer and having access to a few more resources than most, maybe I can get a bit more info. If I do, I will be MORE THAN HAPPY to post it here for all to see and use!

Treasury-Not on the list.

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 19, 2006

In Ontario, all financial institutions must be licensed/registered with the "Financial Services Commission of Ontario"(FSCO) or the "Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions"(OSFI).

If an entity purports to be a financial institution operating in Ontario, consumers should ensure that its name appears on the list of licensed/registered financial institutions on the FSCO or the OSFI websites.

Also file written complaints with these two Orgs.

The people of Canada are great people.

I certainly hope that no one gets the wrong impression of them due to the actions of a few.

Keep filing those complaints until you find someone who will take action.Or until they pile up so high that they can't ignore them any longer.

Important note:When the crooks are caught, any money seized will only be distributed to people who have filed a written complaint.

There is no company. Forget about a refund. Break contact. The only way you will get your money back is if these guys get caught.

They operate under multiple names and do multiple scams. Including the Lotto fee scam.

Write up and mail in your complaints to:

1)The FBI.
2)The Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
3)The Toronto Police.
4)The Ontario Provincial Police.
5)The US Postal Inspection Service.
6)The FTC.
7)Your Attorney General.
8)The Ontario Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations.
9)Phone Busters of Canada.
10)Western Union.
11)The FCC.
12)The Secret Service.
13)Any news organizations you can think of, Or, magazines.
They love to do these kinds of stories.

CNN, just today, ran a story on Canadian Scams.

You can find addresses for all of these on the web by doing an internet search.

Forget calling; only stacks of written complaints or publicity get any results. There are thousands of these ripoffs happening all of the time. If only 10% file a written complaint it will be more than enough to get action.

And, who knows, your report might just be the one to make one or more of these agencies say "Ok, That's enough of this nonsense, let's go get these guys".

Also, change all of your accounts to DIFFERENT banks. And monitor your credit reports carefully. Sign up for monitoring.
Good Luck.

Hard time trying to report incident....

AUTHOR: Michelle - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 11, 2006

I've contacted the FBI, FTC and local authorities here. They each say to contact the other. I've filed a report with the Federal Trade Commission and received something back telling me the laws. I'm not sure what they'll do with my information that I've submitted as far as looking into Treasury Financial Group and their fraudulent activities. Somewhat frustrating....

I'll keep trying however as I believe that they should be stopped soon before other people such as 'us' are hurt. If any of you have had success with reporting your incident, please advise the rest of us on how or who to contact.
