It was a holiday weekend and preparing for a huge event at my home. My kitchen sink clooged and I remembered seeing a paper advertisement for EMERGENCY plumbing help at the local coffee shop. I called the coffee shop who provided me with Treyce Montoya's Plumbing Service. I called and he immediately came over. He charged me $150 for the job and it was NOT "fixable". Instead I had to buy a NEW disposal and the one he suggested I get was $500!!

I have NO problem paying for a service I need, especially one I desperately needed. However... $150 for 45 minutes and it was NOT fixed?

Also the culprit that locked up my drain and disposal was potato peelings. NOBODY told me, when I moved in, to NOT put down egg shells or potato peelings. I mean, what good is a disposal if we cannot put those items in it?

Well, I later found out that he was NOT licensed (he previous had been but retired and ONLY was available for emergencies) so, because he was not licensed anymore, when I called the plumbing licensure department, they stated there was never any BAD reports about him and that he was licensed for 20 years BUT, because he is no longer licensed, I have NO legal grounds to get a refund or to hold him accountable for his work.

On top of that, I feel it is VERY DANGEROUS for plumbers and even landlords to NOT tell new tenants / customers the "rules" of what can and can NOT be placed in the disposal. Someone may try to fix it themselves and cut themselves on the blades if it starts turning when they are working on it.

I also feel that people - landlords or plumbers such as Treyce Montoya - have NO MORALS when they do not educate us on the proper usage.

Had I been EDUCATED on the in's and out's of the disposal, I would NOT be out $650 in 45 minutes! I have better odds at the casino. Odds like that can ruin your life.
