I have been in and out of our local Tuffys to get my vehicles repaired, but no more. I have learned my lesson (probably too late as other folks in the area have warned me to stay away from them). This last time I took my truck in for repairs to the brakes. Over $700 later, my vehicle was done. Now, this was just a general brake job, but according to them, my drums needed to be replaced as well as wheel cylinders and the pads. They always require these parts to be replaced whether it needs it or not. Why? It should be up to the individual. I thought they were correct at the time this was done, but I found out later that, I could have gotten the job done for half the price at a reputable mechanic and other people who have used them in the past told me the same was done to them. Ask anyone in Sturgis about Tuffys and you'll get the same reply...don't use them!! I even went down to Tuffys in Elkhart, and they were astonished about how much I paid. It's ridiculous. Now, they are sending people door to door to drum up business. They are promising 4 oil changes for the price of 3. One guy even offered a friend of mine, coupons for oil changes. Well, it won't happen. I told them to shove their oil changes. He asked me why. He told me they were under new management. When he told me the "new" managers name, I told him they were under the same management as before. Nothing has changed. The manager is still John, I'm not sure of the last name, but this is a small town. Everyone knows who he is.

If you do use Tuffys, use the one in Elkhart, Indiana. Do not use the one in Sturgis, Michigan. There is a Midas close by. I recommend them.

I have known the owner John for over 25 years and he operates a honest business. I too have been in the business for over 30 years and once owned the Elkhart stores that the complaint recommends. Don't be fooled by the big price of brake repairs. If the parts are needed, it is easy to spend 500-1,000 dollars today to fix these things. AND they do NOT sell them on EVERY vehicle. There are exact specifications for these parts that are set forth by the FEDs. If the part does not meet the specs, it HAS TO BE REPLACED. This person just sounds like somebody that is stuck in the 70's pricing world of auto repiar. Good luck when you get tone of the newer cars coming out with more high tech parts $$$.

A Tuffy Auto Service Center may change "management" many times in its history. The owner does not change as much. When this individual was told that the Sturgis, MI Tuffy had new management, that was probably true. The person "John" that was referred to is the owner. His name is John Mikulenas. He lives in Sturgis.
