My story begins in Feb. 2005. Two young men knocked on my door requesting help in getting them points for them to be able to go to Cancun. They also said that the magazines would be going to the Army for them to read over seas.

I thought, "Ok, I want to help, but how, I have no money to spare." I invited them in just to get out of the cold and that was my first mistake.

After I let them in, they showed me their pamphlet of magazines that I can choose from. In the end I didn't actually chose them, they chose them for me and they just happened to be the most expensive ones there.

When it came time to write a check, I said, "Why do I need to write a check? Can't I just call in and say they told me what they needed to say and that they get the points for Cancun?"

They said they needed the checks as a hard copy and the company would send me the void off the checks. I still didn't feel comfortable writing checks for $74 and $92 so they convinced me that their company would call to confirm and ask me if I wanted to keep my subscription or cancel the checks. They were supposed to call in eight business days.

The next thing I know, 7 days later, not business days, I notice that I needed to mail in my receipt after three business days in order to get a refund and cancell my order. They had made me beleive that I didn't need to worry about the receipts or calling, so the thought of reading the checks didn't even cross my mind.

I call the company and asked if they were even planning on calling me. USA told me that they had no control over the people that I talked to and can't do a thing without a complaint letter, which they forward to a Richard Lamb.

After sending a complaint letter, I called them concerning the situation of my complaint letter, they said that it was pending and I should call back in a week. I call back in a week and they tell me that it is still pending and to call back again in 7-10 days. During this time I sent at least 2-3 more trying for a faster response.

I have sent 5 complaint letters and have talked to no one in charge, only the customer service and have now fortunately gotten one refunded. The $74 dollars, but for some reason thought that I wouldn't want the other one refunded as well.

Today, June 22, 2005, I found out that the magazines were never going to anyone but me and that I have to send in another complaint letter for the other $92 dollars, call tomorrow to make sure they send the fax over to Richard Lamb, wait to see if I can get refunded and probably send in a few more letters of complaint.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Reciepts say it all

AUTHOR: Amanda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 22, 2005

I appoligize for what happened to you i used to work for USA and i think that was the same crew that i worked for on your recipts it should say agent code# 012 that was the crew that i worked for. Unfortunately they used a "cancelation spill." The reason that people use these spills is so that they can get paid that night. On the back of your recipt on the top of both your yellow copies it says that if you cancel contestent will not recieve any contest or trip points.

I know of alot of people that are more worried about getting yelled at by the managers than they are about scamming people. This is for eveyone: Go with your instincts if you have to be talked into something and if it sounds fishy just don't do it. The worst thing that will happen to the sales agents is that they will get yelled at and/or fired which could end up being a good thing in the end anyways.

We got paid everynight cash the reason that agents push cash is because that is what we got paid off evernight. That does not make it a scam because Richard Lamb is an owner and it is pretty much all profit after the agents are paid each night. But we also got paid off of checks and that is why when sales agents are stressing their buisness about getting yelled so much that they will tell people the company will call to confirm the order to make sure you still want it. and if you really didnt have the money you would have never wrote out the checks to begin with. it's a good thing that you got your money back and again i appoligize for Universal Subscription Agency just learn from it and know that i am a perfect example that these people are not scam artists.

They are just people trying to make a living and most of them are good and are not trying to scam you. just make sure you read your entire receipt before purchasing a magazine again make sure that these people are telling the truth because the receipt says it all if something is not written on the reciept that they tell you then don't do it just tell them that you would rather not do buisness with a liar. the entire 7 months knocking doors from 10:00 a.m to 8:00p.m.

i have had maybe 2 people ever read the receipt and they still bought from me because i was honest. so if you hear someone say they are from the college or even that they are getting ready to go to college or highschool it's not true read your receipt right on top of where you sign it says "sales agents are not a part of any local highschool or college they a independent contractors" it also says to read entire receipt before signing.
