I live in Canada but spend my winters in Maricopa Arizona. On the 16th of Oct 2012 I had to send a package to Canada via UPS. I had never used them before but after talking with the clerk decided to try them.

I was told by the clerk that it would cost $38.00(and change) and it would arrive in about a week.A week later my son phoned me and told me it arrived and he had to pay to pay a$70.00 brokerage charged. This was never mentioned to me and had it been I would have never used UPS.

I contacted UPS and was told there was nothing they could do as there stores we franchises and I would have to deal with the store.

I went to the store and asked to speak to the manager when I told him I had not been advised of this brokerage charge and I wanted to be reimbursed he told me that was simply not true his staff advise everyone of this unless it was a new staff member and as far as he was concerned that was not the case.I told him I did not appreciate being called a liar and planned on lodging a complaint and advising all my Canadian friends living in Maricopa how this store does business.

He told me That I better be careful about doing that and told me to get out of his store. On Oct 21 2010 the manager of this store was charged with assaulting a female staff who was in the store on business.I filed a complaint with mail box etc but expect it will go no where and this man will be able to push people  around and stay in business.

Slander.

AUTHOR: seeworthy - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, October 25, 2012

Slanderalso called calumny, vilification, traducement, defamation (for transitory statements), and libel (for written, broadcast, or otherwise published words)is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government, religion, or nation a negative or inferior image. This can be also any disparaging statement made by one person about another, which is communicated or published, whether true or false, depending on legal state.

I'm sorry, but it still appears as though this complaint is using an unrelated issue, whether hearsay or true, for the simple purpose of accommodating a personal beef to defame the reputation of a business. Did you know of this old accusation prior to your patronage, or only go on a quest for any possible dirt you could sling at a reputable business within your community after the fact? If it is the latter, it would be your prerogative to stand tall while doing so. Other's, however, may call you a hypocrite. Just for the sake of argument, in the incredibly infinitesimal chance that this business was operating under normal and standard shipping protocol, what would your actions say about you?

Thank you for the update. Understanding this $70 was is not an upcharge by the shipper, could you now include a more verifiable definition of how companies such as UPS, FedEx, and USPS differ with these fees imposed by other countries? The $70 would be defined only when in the customs of the country of destination, then required to be collected and returned by the particular carrier being utilized and returned, minus brokerage fees, as revenue to the country of destination. And if you would be so kind, would you also clarify how tax imposed by other countries is related to employee treatment in this country? Your clarification will be most educational, for someone.

This poster has a problem, and it's not with brokerage fees.

AUTHOR: seeworthy - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, October 25, 2012

Why is this complainer blaming the shipping outlet for the Canadian duties, taxes, and brokerage fees? If he stopped his absurd ramage for two seconds he may understand that those fees are not imposed by the carrier, and certainly not by a UPS Store! At inception of a shipment, it is impossible for any carrier to know if or how much the country may impose fees. It is all carriers responsibility to collect any fees for the destination country at the time of delivery, then return that charge to the country that imposed it. That $70 would have been an identical charge if the carrier happened to be FedEx or the United States Post Office, and neither of those companies necessarily state that there may be country import fees.

All this energy wasted by this poster, yet he/she is still as ignorant as ever. Did this person ever call other shipping companies to discover the exact same protocol would have occured? Was any quick research done online to become more competent, even after the fact? Nope. This person would rather spend time having a tantrum while running around town spreading false information about a business that is functioning properly. What's most pathetic here is that this whiner gropes at a completely unfounded, totally unrelated to the topic, accusation that the owner assualts staff members. Slander is not only unethical but is illegal in this context.

The only legitimate complaint readers can see here should be from that UPS Store and Mariposa citizens towards this somewhat mentally disturbed resident.

Standard Procedure

US Customs brokerage fees are standard for international shipments to Canada.  Why are you surprised by this?
