What this company sold me and what they delivered were two entirely different things. They promised to train us in the business of selling bi-weekly mortgage reduction plans to home owners and provide leads through their web site. They had two "buy-in" levels; we opted for the one that was susposed to be the most complete. When we received our "kit" it was little more than a box of useless paper and forms to order more of their materials. Even their "training" CD was little more than a commercial to sell more of their products and the promise that once you did you would be set.

When we called in to talk to our personal "support representative" not only did we not receive training, we had a lot of trouble getting anyone to talk to us at all. Another thing we found out was that the toll free numbers that had been available initially, once you become a representative, no longer exist. You pay for the calls to talk to a trainer or try and get support.

Not willing to invest anymore money than I already had based on what I had seen so far I contacted the company and asked to return my kit for a refund. I was told that I would need to fax in my explanation and then send the kit back at my expense. I figured that was getting off light so I promptly taped up the box and shipped it back.

They refused it and sent it back to me. I have now written three letters to my credit card company for a refund and had no success. I have called USMR and tried to reason and even pleaded for a refund only to hit a brick wall.

This company clearly has not lived up to any of their sales promises and lied to my credit card company to boot. Even if I had all the materials and they had lived up to all their promises I would never feel safe in asking people to entrust their mortgages to a company of this standard. They need to be shut down.

Greetings:

Without knowing the last name of the source of this complaint "Ron" - it is virtually impossible to review our records to determine the exact cause of his alleged dissatisfaction.

Thus, I make the following comments not so much on specifics related to this particular individual's experience, but based on the experiences of a great many thousands of other representatives of USMR.

A quick review will reveal that USMR has been in business for more than 17 years. We began in 1988 and since then, more than 27,000 independent marketing representatives have carefully researched us and made the decision to join our company, just as "Ron" apparently did.

These same idividuals have gone on to enroll many Billions of dollars of client mortgages on our program making it one of the largest of its type in America today. The capital "B" in Billion is for emphasis. The point is, if Ron's experience were pervasive, as he would like readers to believe, then surely there would be enormous numbers of complaints against our company. Yet I see only Ron's.

I want everyone to understand - there are good reasons for our policies regarding returned material. Time and space do not permit a complete review of these policies but let me mention a few:

First, many people interested in starting their own small business for about $500 contact USMR . . . along with competitors, seeking information on the business and how they can get started. After careful evaluation, more than 27,000 people have chosen USMR over all others. To the best of our knowledge, no other similar company has reached this level.

Problem is, we have some rather aggressive competitors who engage in sales tactics that are far beyond being merely unprofessional. After being lied-to and misled by some of these sales people, who will do almost anything to earn their commission by converting USMR reps to their company, the prospect who had joined USMR now believes a mistake has been made. So the individual joins "Brand X" believing he or she is making a better choice.

Next, in an effort to recover their investment to join USMR, this person then tries to return materials and computer software in order to pay for joining the competitor - who may have offered a deeply discount price in order to convince the prospect to change companies.

Probelm is, many competitors lack the depth of training and presentation materials offered by USMR, (e.g.) our USMR mortgage software, client presentation DVDs or videos, training materials (all printed in color via our 5,000 foot on-site printing facility) and so on - some reps are convinced to sell the competitor's program using the USMR name and materials - and then tell the client we are affiliated in some way. Not true but they do it anyway. We have received many complaints about this over the years.

Understand that many competitors operate out of their house and have virtually no material or support structure to offer. These are firms that likely DO have a long complaint history, and for good reason.

In contrast to our smaller competitors, USMR has over 20,000 feet of office space located in two states. We've been in the same location for over 12 years and employ almost 50 people. Our competitors usually have anywhere from two to five employees.

In summary, I submit that if anyone were to carefully review the record of USMR, you will learn that we have over 27,000 representatives who have enrolled billions of dollars worth of consumer mortgages into our Equity Acceleration Program (Federal Trademark)- keep in mind that most of our sales network consists of licensed mortgage lenders and brokers, not just business opportunity buyers like Ron.

One point I'd like to add - it's exceedingly hard to impress mortgage professionals, let alone convince them to join a company. USMR deals primarily with professionals from the mortgage industry who add our product to their loans. They wouldn't do this if we did business the way Ron would have you believe. Or if we offered anything less than a first-class product with excellent support, not only for brokers, but for their clients as well.

Surely, if Ron's complaint had any significant basis in fact, and we really did run USMR as he would have you believe, there would be large numbers of complaints. Yet Ron stands alone in his comments. I believe Ron has other motives for filing this complaint. The facts will not support Ron's position on this and I feel certain he's well aware of this.

Before I close, please allow me to briefly address just a few of Ron's "facts." First, his assertion that "our 'kit' consists mostly of useless paper and forms to order more of their materials."

Ron knows this is patently false - at a minimum, he would hve received two large notebook binders with color presentations and training material that goes far beyond the materials of any other firm in the business, along with mortgage software, a presentation video, color brochures, etc. . . . about 10 pounds of material and that's at a minimum. Most kits go out at around 18 pounds. Ron knows this or he probably wouldn't have bought from us in the first place. Our color material is another reason why so many people join us.

Also, about support: Most of the people who join us do so because of our support team. We pull more reps from competitors than anyone because of this one issue. It's a big one. For Ron to suggest that he had a problem with support is just groundless. Of all the points he could raise, this is by far the most lame.

And as far as the 800 number used for support - our material clearly states that our support services are free - but the rep pays for the call. Like most companies, we take inquiry and sales calls on the 800 numbers, but not support calls . . . and for a number of reasons.

Keep in mind that we have lowered our prices to the lowest level possible, and to do that, we cut out 800 service for support calls. In addition to other benefits, this saves us money and allows us to offer a $500 business program with a full support staff. It's rare today to get any support for a business costing $500. But here again, Ron's complaint stands alone.

When you think about it, most people pay about 3 to 5 cents a minute for long distance in today's market. A 15 minute support call will cost a rep about 45 to 75 cents. Most people are very happy for this. What Ron doesn't see is our investment in him - it's the support costs that we have to pay that run us $40 per hour in employee related costs. Notice the contrast between his long distance cost and our hourly support labor cost? Also, Ron neglected to mention that we don't earn an ongoing income from our reps unless they become successful at enrolling clients into our programs - that's the whole purpose of support and why so many reps join us over this one point.

In summary, and I say again, I believe that Ron has joined a competitor or has other reasons for filing what is clearly a complaint that has been completely misrepresented - it is just devoid of supportable facts. If he were correct in his assertions, this site would have over a hundred complaints. Yet Ron's complaint is the only one I could find.

In closing, thank you for allowing me this opportunity to set the record straight. Should anyone have any comments or wish to gain further clarification to any point in this rebuttal, or even Ron's original complaint, they may e-mail me personally.

I am the Director of Operations. I have written most of the manuals Ron 'forgot' to mention in his complaint. I've been with the company 17 years. My e-mail is steveg@usmr.net and I will be glad to respond to anyone needing information on our company.

Again, thank you for your understanding.
