US Prisoner Transport Damages Inmate Property
AUTHOR: santarosa22 - (USA)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, November 29, 2015
US Prisoner Transport did damage a pair of eyeglasses that an inmate in Florida Department of Corrections had in transit return from outside court back to Santa Rosa Annex. Upon arrival at the prison (on Thanksgiving 2013), it was uncovered that one of two pairs of glasses were damaged. It is policy of the transporting company for an inmate to not wear any glasses due to a potential for damage during transport. Well, upon return to state prison, the agents for USPT did duly acknowledge the damage and promised to report such to the company. After allowing for about two weeks time, the undersigned did write USPT a letter and to wit, no reply was ever given. A lawsuit was engaged in Santa Rosa County Court and a civil judgment was entered against USPT and to date, the company refuses to pay. That is OK as a status conference is set for 12/9 by which USPT will be further directed to pay the judgment. Another hearing is set for 1/12 in a similar suit in Seminole County, Florida. All in all, USPT and its officers, refuse to acknowledge that the transporting company is liable for the damage to the eyeglasses. All, that needs to be done: satisfy the judgment or understand that groundwork is already laid for appropriate legal action to recover all monies owed. JUST PAY THE PERSON.
