On 9/24/2015 I was contactedon my cell phone by a man with an oriental accent stating that I was chosen to receive a grant of $7800. The man stated that he was an agent of the US Treasury Department. He said I was receiving this grant because I had shown to be a good citizen. He also stated that I did not have to report it on income tax or repay it at all. This man gave me a phone # to call and a grant ID number to give to the person I was supposed to contact.

I called the phone number (235-617-0771) and asked for Nancy Jones. This was supposedly one of the agents I was supposed to contact and the other was a Paul Smith. When I spoke to Ms. Jones she told me that I should go to a Walmart Moneygram and give them the grant ID number I had been given and $220 to cover the taxes and handling. Ms. Jones also had an oriental accent. She wanted to know how soon I could go to Walmart. She was quite disturbed when I told her that I could not get there for a couple of hours. She repeated what I needed to claim the grant numerous times.

At this point I thought that this may easily be a scam because the government would certainly just take the taxes out of the payment and you would certainly have to report it to the IRS. I did the things that were going to take me the couple of hours and called Ms. Jones back, which is what I had been instructed to do. I told her I was in the Walmart parking lot but I did not have the cash for the $220. I asked if they couldn't just take the taxes and handling out of the grant money. I also told her I thought this was a scam. She claimed it was not and urged me to get the cash. I told her at this point that I would not. She got very upset and I hung up.

Thanks to your website I looked up the scam when I got home and found out that I was right. NEVER pay to get Money!!!
