How Vera Wang's Maids on Madison store ruined my wedding
I have an unfortunate story to tell about my experience with Vera Wang's bridesmaids shop in Manhattan.

It was my dream to get married in a Vera Wang dress. So, when that time came, I couldn't wait to fly to New York (I live in Texas) to find my "dream" wedding dress. After finding the perfect Vera Wang wedding dress, I set out to find the perfect bridesmaids dresses. I walked across the street to the Vera Wang Maids on Madison store and began my search. After finding the perfect bridesmaids dresses, the sales associate provided me with the appropriate deadline dates by which they needed all the bride's maids measurements. All measurements were in on time and all seemed to be going as planned.

Every other month, over the next year, I flew from Texas to New York to the Vera Wang bridal shop to get fitted for my wedding dress. Last week, I received my beautiful wedding dress from the Vera Wang Flagship store. Everything seemed to be going my way. My wedding dress was in and, now, I was waiting only for the bridesmaids dresses. There was nothing stopping me from having the ultimate wedding, or so I thought.

Since I had not heard from the Vera Wang Maids on Madison store in over a month, and since my wedding date was coming up on May 6, 2006, three weeks from today, I decided to call them up myself to check on the status of my order. I never expected the response I heard next. They thanked me for calling them and then proceeded to explain to me that my bridesmaids dresses would not be ready for my wedding!

I asked them how we got into this situation. They admitted that they had known about a 3-week delay on all orders due to Hurricane Katrina since, at least, last November 2005. I asked why they would promise me bridesmaids dresses when they knew they couldn't deliver. Why didn't they adjust their deadlines and schedules to accommodate this delay on orders? There were no answers. They only suggested that I be prepared with a backup plan. I understand having a backup plan for rain or shine, but not for bridesmaids dresses ordered months before a wedding.

I asked them when they planned on calling me to tell me that they couldn't deliver. They told me that the would know more about the status of my order toward the end of next week and call me then. Next week is only 2 weeks before my wedding! Did they expect me to come up with a backup plan only 2 weeks before my wedding? I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I mean, I had already bought all the appropriate shoes and jewelry to match the color and style of the 6 bridesmaids dresses. I had already bought a flower girl dress that perfectly matched the color and style of the bridesmaids dresses. I had already ordered all the wedding favors to match the color and style of the bridesmaids dresses. I had already picked out 9 tuxes that complimented the color and style of the bridesmaids dresses. I had already spent thousands of dollars on wedding-related items that centered around the color and style of the bridesmaids dresses. I had already purchased thousands of dollars of flowers to compliment the color and style of the bridesmaids dresses. I had already spent countless hours with wedding coordinators preparing for a wedding theme centered around the color and style of the bridesmaids dresses. How can anyone have a backup plan for all that?!

I had planned my wedding to include 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen. Now, I barely have time and money to accommodate 2 bridesmaids and 2 groomsmen, forget all the other things I've already spent time and money on. Thank you Vera Wang!

Well, within days following this post and the "threat" to place this post in the NY Times, one of the top managers over all Vera Wang bridal shops let me know that she would get the dresses mailed to me within three business days! Fortunately, the dresses arrived as expected.

Please note that, at first, the manager did not seem to want to help me. She suggested that I work something else out since they could not help me. Her mood changed very quickly after I suggested that I was going to place this post in the NY Times!
