January 11, 2010

I have a warranty for a Whirlpool dishwasher which comes up for renewal in November of each year.

Last year, I received the bill for the renewal, costing $63.44, at least 4 months ahead of time.  I waited and paid this in September.

When I received my policy, it stated that I owed $74.46.  I called Whirlpool and was told that the initial price had been a promotion, and that I owed  and additional $11.02.

I paid the $11.02, and then a few days later, received in the mail a bill for renewal, for $63.44.

When I called Whirlpool to complain about the scam, I was told that I would have to cancel the $74.46 policy and pay the $63.44, which I did.  They said I would receive a check in the mail for the cancellation.

On December 2, 2009, the check arrived, but instead of being for $74.46,  it was for $70.69.  When I called to ask why I had not received $74.46, they said I had to pay a cancellation fee

I protested, stating that I would not have had to cancel if they had not been trying to steal $11.02 from me in the first place.

A man named Chris told me that I had cancelled within 60 days (the cancellation took place within 14 days), and that I really should not have had a cancellation fee applied anyways, but that the company had a policy of not sending out checks if they were for less than $5.00He said to call back if I had not received a check by 1/6/2010.

Today, I called the company again.  This time a man named Reggie spoke with accounting.  He reiterated that my cancellation was within the 60 day period and that I should not have been charged.  He checked with the accounting department and was told that,  Any amount less than $5.00 is under variance, and that they would not reimburse me.

I asked him if I would be billed for less than $5.00 by Whirlpool if I owed it for some reason, and he said that  Whirlpool would bill me.

The company is Whirlpool,

P.O. Box 740094, Louisville, KY  40201-7494
.

The telephone number they have had me call is 1-866-368-6478

My service plan number is 169939444.

I have now told this story a dozen times, and will never again purchase a Whirlpool product.  I think this is appalling.

As far as I am concerned, Whirlpool is violating all principles of customer service, business ethics, basic honesty.
