White Towing Company And Data Line Credit ripoff fraudulent billing and debt collection Huntington Beach California

I have almost the exact same story as everyone else dealing with this company. I sold a car to a private party for, no joke, 200 bucks. I turned in my liability release to the DMV the next day. I guess the guy never turned in his stuff, and later just abandoned the car.

I receive a bill from White Towing Co for the car being towed and impounded. I called immediately and explained it was no longer my car. I was told not to worry, it was taken care of. I told them if they had any problems getting info from the DMV to call me.

I didn't hear anything for several months, so I figured it was over, then I receive a bill from Data Line Credit Corp for over a thousand dollars! I can barely pay my own debt, let alone someone elses.

Well here is where it gets nasty, see I am deaf and use a TTY relay to make my phone calls. I called and called Data Line, they kept hanging up on the operator. I even tried having the operator tell them, "A deaf person is responding to your collection attempts." A man said, we know what the relay is we don't accept THOSE kind of calls." Then hung up!

Ok I was now mad, but keeping it cool, I wrote them and explained what was up. I went to the DMV and requested a copy of my release. It had been a year by now since I sold the car. The DMV has NO RECORD of my release! I said I brought it in by hand, they said it sometimes takes a long time to be processed. (A year?)

So Data Line sends back my letter, and says we don't care if it's not your car, it was under your name, pay us. I an so tired of companys thinking they can take advantage of people just by threatening their credit! I just paid off all my own debt and was trying to repair credit, and now this.

Well I filed with the better business bureau, I am waiting for a response from Data Line. I suggest you all file too, and if anyone knows how else to take care of this let me know, although I am aware I may be screwed because of the DMV's mistake.
