We were told the company would charge us 129$ for 3 people and 1 truck per hour. They left obviously out that packing material was extra.  The labor rate they charged you was pretty standard.  Drive time is usually 2X that rate.  Doesn't sound like that happened.  Packing material is ALWAYS extra and is never included in a local move - even with a legitimate mover.  If you assumed the packing material was included, then that's on you - not the mover.

They also do NOT charge you by weight so they will be very inefficient loading the truck so you end up having to get another truck.  Local moves are always charged by the hour.  If they needed a second truck and crew to move your stuff, then you had a lot of stuff you needed to move.

They are dragging the hours out as long as possible, quadripple wrap everything to up the packing material charges and then they come up with extra charges.  Not likely.  Most local movers don't like being on the job site sitting with the customer and wrapping stuff.  They would rather be lifting and moving.  Insofar as quadruple wrap, you don't indicate much in the way was broken or damaged.  There is a reason for that.  It's because they wrapped everything properly.  Now, would you rather they wrap stuff properly, or not, and then it gets damaged when they don't - for which you would receive almost nothing is reimbursement.

The second truck even though no additional 3 crew they now charge you $230 or $260 extra.  That's standard as well - even with a legit mover.

To make a long story short we ended up paying more than $5000 in charges. We even have their manager on a recording stating that we would not be charged more than $700 for the unloading yet the final charge was more than twice that amount. Not because it took much longer but because of them charging us extra left and right.  For a large local move that required 2 trucks to perform, this is not out of the ordinary.  The fact that you have a recording indicating you would not be charged more than $700 for unloading is irrelevant.  Nothing discussed over a telephone is binding upon anyone.  Moving contracts are written - and you agreed to the hourly charges.

The worst part is that they do not even want to discuss the cost components with you.  There is nothing to discuss or negotiate.  The hourly charges are the charges.  The extra truck is the extra truck and the materials are the materials.  You have a signed contract.  If you try to negotiate the price outisde the terms and conditions you agreed to, then you're looking at breaching your contract.  Even if you called the police, the police would only tell you to pay the mover what he is owed.

It seems a lot of other customers had a similar experience and if some of you want to start a class action lawsuit please contact me. I am happy to lead the charge.  None of what you described is illegal, therefore there is nothing to sue for.  And a class action?  Stupid.  Moving is as individually unique as a fingerprint.  Therefore, there is no class that can be created.  However, try speaking with a lawyer about your move.  The first thing they will tell you is you have no recourse.

Here's the best advice I can give:

Moving is not an inexpensive venture.  It costs a lot of money and time and stress.  Movers utilize written contracts as required under the law and generally have all of the control during a move, therefore they get to set the rules.  Research what to expect in either a local move, or a cross country move.  Then find a mover local to you and select a few to interview.  Hire the one you trust the most.

The person who posted this complaint did none of these things and believes he/she suffered.  They did not.
