Just received a "Welcome Packet" from American Home Shield for a home warranty that I never requested.  The letter is signed by a "T. Seymour", Vice President of Renewals.

I've no idea how this company would be under the impression that I made any sort of arrangement with them.  The "Account Summary" is complete with an "Agreement Number" as well as an "Agreement Term".

I percieve this to be some type of phishing scam and would be most interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this with this company.

Thanks.

It's a clever scam

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

Anyone who actually LISTENS to American Home Shield's radio commercials can figure out quickly that the company uses half-truths and clever language to draw in suckers legally.  Again and again the phrase "Covered Repairs will be paid for you" is used- well, isn't that just too neat?  You never hear what "Covered" repairs means- that's up to American Home Shield, and you'd be amazed at how often the repair you need isn't Covered, sorry.  "Hey, we said COVERED repairs, sucker!"

BTW, I'm not a former customer and never would call these people, because I actually LISTEN to the commercials.  I can recognize weasel language when I hear it.  Avoid any company that uses the words "may" or "might" or "could," while you're at it.  Get everything in writing and make sure the language is specific.  My guess is that when you demand this before giving your credit card number, the company will cut off contact because they figure out that you aren't a good pigeon.
