Jan. 2003 - Heat not working...called my home warranty company, American Home Shield (AHS)...American Residential Services (ARS)was assigned the work order & determined a new unit was required (gas pack heat/ac package unit). I was told by AHS that they use Carrier products...ARS could not identify the type of unit or SEER, but would only replace it with a 10 SEER Goodman unit (they say ordered by AHS) - I offered to pay the difference for an upgrade to a Carrier unit & the minimum they wanted for a Carrier was a difference of $2,500...$3,500 for a 12 SEER. I work for a contractor...I had estimates for the same unit for $2,200 - no insurance involved. I was forced to accept what they were offering or take a buy-out for $700. Replacement was made after 2 weeks, also requiring me to pay over $500 in "uncovered" expenses. I asked that ARS be taken off of my call list for unethical practices.

April 2003 - Turned on "new" a/c unit...not working...called for service. ARS was dispatched by AHS. I refused ARS & had to call AHS 3 times to get another company dispatched. It has been 4 weeks and my a/c is still not working. The compressor is out due to a very large leak in the "new" evaporator coil. The new service provider cannot get approval for these extensive repairs because AHS wants their sister company, ARS, to return to fix it, even though I have filed complaints against that company and had them taken off of my call list.

Bottom line: American Home Shield is using sub-standard products, in conjunction with their sister company, American Residential Services. I have made numerous calls to AHS since January, for the heating issue...and since April for the A/C issued. They have hung up on me, refused to allow me to speak to supervisors, and when I asked my new service provider to conference me in on their calls, they hung up as soon as they found out I was on the line. My electric/gas bill has risen from an average of $147/month to $237 per month since installation of this piece of junk. No representative from AHS has contacted me in the 4 weeks I have been trying to resolve this issue.

The Rip-Off Continues...but finally have AHS CORPORATE OFFICE PHONE NUMBER

AUTHOR: Holly - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 19, 2003

I was told by an AHS representative on Friday, May 16 that someone would contact me before the close of business that day. Of course, no one did. After several unsuccessful attempts over the weekend, I was finally told today, Monday May 19, that a "second-opinion" company had been located this past Friday (not ever mentioned over the weekend phone calls) and that they should have contacted me. When I attempted to contact this company, I got a recording stating that I needed to dial the area code first...I later learned that this company is located over 100 miles from my home(!!), and that they couldn't come until late Wednesday afternoon.

I then called back to AHS to complain about the distance of this company & time since my initial call (April 25), the representative agreed that I should not have to wait until Wednesday then put me on hold to schedule a sooner service call...I held for approximately 20 minutes, then she returned to tell me that that was the fastest appointment I could get, also quoting text from the warranty contract.

I asked to speak to a supervisor & was told that a supervisor wasn't available. Then she hung up. I called back again & got a supervisor "Nalexian" (refuses to give last name), who told me that was policy and I should just go ahead & have the unit repaired at my own cost if I was in a hurry. I asked to speak to her supervisor "Jason Lowe" who was also unavailable, nor who has a direct number, nor could she tell me when he would be available. I asked for the name of the president of the company, was given "Scott Cromie", also with no direct number, and was told that his office is located in Carroll, Iowa.

After contacting the ServiceMaster home office, I was told that Mr. Cromie's office is located in Memphis, Tennessee & given a direct number to the American Home Shield Executive Offices (901-537-8082). The receptionist at ServiceMaster also stated that she had fielded an "enormous amount" of calls with complaints about American Home Shield.

I have called AHS Corp. office in Memphis & left a message with Henrietta Hittsman, Executive Assistant to Mr. Cromie this morning at approximately 9 a.m. I will update again when this problem is resolved.

Goodman has a one year parts and labor warrenty.Plus five years parts. You will not allow the installing company to repair your problem. Due to cold weather it is not advised to start an a/c unit . Being a package unit you just assume the system is fully charged. Get over it and call ARS and go on with your life.
