I purchased a wedding dress from Bridaltown on June 9, 2001. They offered a rebate from a company called "American Business Premiums" with a PO Box and a guarantee of rebate of $250 if the extensive instructions were precisely followed.

Instructions were given to complete and send original forms and receipt duplicates by registered mail within 15 days of purchase. ***Then, exactly 58 months later (which is why I'm reporting this now) I was to send another letter with copies and forms to the same PO Box and company. If I followed all instructions correctly, I would receive this rebate within one month.

I sent the second packet, with all duplicates and originals at the exact time as directed, by registered mail. I received the letter back, return to sender, not deliverable as addressed.

Apparently, American Business Premiums is defunct, and with it, my well-earned rebate. I cannot find the company name anywhere on the web searches. I should have guessed it was a scam to begin with, but I thought it would be worth the try.

Does anyone else have a similar experience? Did anyone follow up on their rebate offer? I haven't found any other complaints.

alteration disaster

AUTHOR: Amy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 25, 2006

In addition to the rebate scam, I also paid to have the wedding dress altered to fit. It needed shortening and a repair to a small hole in the back.

At the fitting the seamstress, Lynne, had not repaired the hole, and had only pinned the dress shorter at the hem. She said she would take the skirt up at the waist.

At pick up the fit was still terrible (she was supposed to let it out and fix the hem, but did not, and claimed she had). She had ruined the pattern of the skirt by hemming it up from the bottom instead of at the waist like she said she would. I had no choice but to take the dress, since I was moving away.

I called the store and spoke with manager Jennifer Smith. I told her that the skirt was ruined and the seamstress did not do the agreed upon alterations. I should have asked for a full refund, but I didn't have time to look for a new dress before the wedding. She had to speak with manager of alterations, Mr. Titze.

Later, I received a refund check for HALF the alteration price, which didn't touch the amount of money I had to spend getting the damage repaired as well as possible by an independent seamstress.

In reading other complaints about the alterations department, I would recommend that if you do end up buying a wedding dress there, you go ELSEWHERE to a REPUTABLE company for the alterations. There is NO advantage in having it done there, financially or in quality.
