Received offer from company for 0% APR for 12 months. The letter was simple and noted that the attached checks can be used for Purchases, Balance Transfers or Cash. States must be used by June 25, 2010.
On the checkbook, same information in big colorful bold letters.
Unknown to me, in smaller print, 4% fee.
Did not realize the 4% until after I used the check and notice a charge to the account. Called Customer Service, and they could not move it. Told them that I would even pay off the full amount (minus the 4% fee), did not move.
Asked if I can contest the decision. Yes, send in the checks. Asked what that will do, simply they'll pull up the offer in their system...which would show 4% fee. But that does not show that information was in small print.
Was very unhelpful and rude.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds
balance transfer fee

I have credit cards from many different banks and they all send those checks for balance transfers @ 0% and they always charge a 3 - 4% fee on the balance transferred over. This is nothing new. You should probably read the terms and conditions before accepting them.
