I am looking for people who have had Cingular Wireless for cell service. My husband and I had Cingular service and then when the contract expired ported our number to Verizon. Upon porting this number we received the final bill which was astronomical. We had overages in minutes in excess of about 400 minutes. We have been fighting this for 3 months. It is impossible for either of us (we both work during the day) to make the calls to the extent of the bill.

Pretty much all through the month of June they have us making call every 5 minutes for an entire 8 hour day. There are some days we didn't even use the phone. There is one day in particular June 5, that my wife was taking her Praxis 1 test that they have minutes being used on the phone. During this test cell phones are not allowed in the building and you are being watched by video and they have audio taping equipment in there. Cingular claims their reps. have went through the bill and it is correct. I have told them I can get our employers and even the testing place to show that we were not using the phone. They will not budge. I want to hear other stories. I have heard from some that went Cingular went AT&T that they noticed an increase in their bills. We are being hosed by Cingular.

Better to have a pay as you go phone

AUTHOR: Pablo - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 05, 2008

I had the same thing happen to me from verizon. A 3 year contract that basicly says you pay whatever we say. So, a few months into the useage, I begin getting bigger and bigger bills with over minutes charges. This went on for a few months with the bill getting bigger and bigger with inexplicable " incoming " call minutes being billed to my phone. I complained that my phone hasn't rang nor were there any calls registered on the phone as calls missed. Verizon said too bad. You pay whatever we say.

I got out of that contract and took a pay as you go plan and phone. What a joy. I spend exactly 100.00 per year for one years service and 600 minutes that carry over if not used. No way can I be scamed. I love it. I'd NEVER sign on to an open ended plan that gets to decide what your bill is every month.

Seems to be a Cingular Thing

My husband and I went through the same thing. Over the period of one year we were charged for Internet downloads. Neither one of us uses the Internet on our cell phones.
Initially, we did not know the charges b/c Cingular kept sending our bills to MI, where my husband is originally from. We've lived in VA for 2 years and Cinglar just now started sending bills to our 'new' address.
BUT, when I went through all the bills and added up the extra charges, it came to almost $200. When my husband called Cingular they told him they could not refund anything over 2 months old, so we'd have to suck it up. They also kept saying that since we were charged, we used it. WHAT BS!!!
Anyhow, I then filed a Better Business Bureau complaint and a few weeks after we received a call from someone saying they were the AT&T president (yeah, right but OK). Anyways, they appologized for our unpleasant experience and we got a credit for the next 2 months, which makes our next phone bill = $0.
Try going through BBB.

Similar thing happened to me

AUTHOR: Debbie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 17, 2007

I had something similar happen to me at the hands of Cingular.

I had service with them for a two-year contract. A year into it, I started getting phantom charges on my bill for "Internet Xpress". I don't EVER use the internet on my phone - EVER! I have the internet at home and at work, so if I need to use it, I'm certainly not going to do it on my phone.

Anyway, I called Cingular to dispute the charges and the girl pretty much said the same thing to me - that "the bill is correct, you used the service." and I was out of luck. I don't think so. The charges added up to around $180!

Let me say also that these charges were for only a few minutes at a time, and at ALL HOURS of the day and night. Some were at 9pm, some at 1am, some at 3 and 4am! I told the girl that I have a JOB and I'm certainly not surfing the internet at 3 and 4am on my cell phone! She made a comment that some of the charges were during the day, and again I told her that I have a job, and if I want to use the internet, I'm going to do it on my nice 19" flat screen computer at work, not a 2" screen on my cell phone!!! She then proceeded to say that someone else could have used it and I told her NO, I live alone and my cell phone is in my posession at all times. She just wouldn't budge.

My cell phone bill is never more than $50 a month, and I told her I'd pay my regular charges, but I would NOT pay for the $180 in "Internet Xpress" that I didn't use. She said that was fine, but they would cut off the phone if all the charges weren't paid.

It was eventually sent to "dispute resolution" - whatever that is - and they came back a week later and told me that I had to pay it - period. I told them they could suck it - I refused to pay it and they could send me to collections or whatever - it was the principle of the matter more than the $180!!!!

They did cut the phone off and I did switch carriers. Funny thing, I never heard another word from them...and this has been about 10 months ago.
