I purchased a 2006 Harley Davidson Dyna WideGlide FXDWI with 8000 miles on it. I was told there was a bearing issue with these bikes and a repair needed to be done at 15,000 miles. He gave me the letter from Harley-Davidson stating it. I put just under 7000 miles on the bike when I started hearing a noise I was not familiar with coming from the bike.

I took it to Rockstar- Harley in Ft Myers . The manager of the service department listened to the bike and verified the noise was the bearing on 3/23/2019 . I made an appointment for 4/3/2019 with the service writer . On 4/8/2019 I was told the repair would be 590.00 and Harley corporate would not cover it. I should call Harley Corporate and explain to them my issue anyway. I did .

I talked to two people and explained the problems and the fact I had the repair letter from Harley Davidson stating the repair would be free . I spoke with Harley on 3//23 and was led me to believe this would not be a problem . Then I was accused of making up a false document to get my bike repaired free of charge. I sent Harley the document and was told they wont fix it regardless. I send and receive several emails about the issue and the documents proving the repair should be covered to no avail. I called and approved the $590.00 repair late on the 8th .

On 4/9/2019 I receive a call and now the repair is 2695.00 stating dowels being left out of the transmission caused the bearing failure and the only way they could guarantee the repair is to replace the transmission case . I have researched this issue and Harley knew of this problem during manufacture and refused to take the action. Harley- Davidson has left it to the dealers to resolve. They refuse to accept the repair for lack of reimbursement .

Question

AUTHOR: Flint - (Afghanistan)

POSTED: Monday, August 19, 2019

Why does your repair estimate say "Aftermarket Bearing" on it?  Is that perhaps why Harley is refusing to cover the service -- someone has already replaced the bearing with a non-OEM version?  You are strangely silent on the specific reason that Harley is refusing to honor that letter -- what is it?

Harley Davidson refused to give a reference number

AUTHOR: randy - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, August 19, 2019

The document supplied by Harley-Davidson states the bearing needs to be replaced every 15,000 miles. I rode over 120,000 in the last 3 years. According to you I would need to change the bearing 2 times a year. Possibly 3 times .

The service writer made a note to ask the harley tech about an aftermaket bearing that would prevent multiple changes a year knowing the established failure rate of the bearing . You ask why  Harley refused service

1. Harley customer service denied the letter was valid .

2. Your customer sevice department accused me of forging the document and told Rockstar Harley .

3 . After you recieved the document you refused to give Rockstar Harley a reference number to insure payment for the repair.

4. After your department talked to the manager Donn the estimate went to 2695.00 in retalitation .

Is it true Harley-davidson set aside millions of dollars to cover the related issues causing the inner primary bearing ?

Did leaving the dowel pins out of the transmission cases causing alignment problems and muptile failures of related parts?

Is it true you denied or refused to accept responsibility?

Is this failure related to the class action suit filed against you now ?

The bearing race failure was not my fault. I am guilty of taking a document from Harley-Davidson to Rockstar Harley-Davidson and expecting my bike to repaired as stated . I have answered your questions requardless of the insinuations. Its time you own up to your mistake and do whats right.

Reference to the letter

You ask how I aquired the letter. It was with the owners manual documents and prior statments. All services were performed at Lakland Harley Davidson. The oil was changed 3 times . At 5000 and at 9600 , 14000 with Amsoil Synthetic . Harley / you are full aware of the exact issue pertaining to this failure. Only fixing a limited amount . Then leaving the owmers and dealers to fight it out.

When you purchased the Motorcycle who did you purchase it from a Private Party or an actual Harley-Davidson dealer?  How exactly did you aquite that "letter"?

Did you do a lubricant change at the 5,000 mile intervals as stated in the letter? In the time you had this Motorcycle you should have done it at least once at around 10,000-11,000 miles.
