Hawaiian airlines would not give me my money back for a ticket not used. The ticket was not able to be used because of a family medical emergency, however, they said that I could get a ticket number and change the flight with a fee when ready. I was semi-satisfied. Having no other choice... I went along with it.
I recently requested that the flight be changed and they said they no longer have my ticket information--that it was voided by the computer system. This was a 900. plus ticket--and it has been lost in their system, how convenient. I've was told that I can fax a letter to customer service, who can only be contacted by fax (yet I found a voice-line-number after some research--it was a detour--hoping that I wouldn't persist) which I have, to customer service who essentially are telling me that there is nothing they can do.
I guess I'm not getting how if you make a purchase and services are not rendered (taking the flight--using a seat) that an airlines can just take your money without any sort of compensation. Oh yeah it is in the fine print( I ne
I am so tired of getting bad customer service and being treated as if my money and time are not valued and the laws protecting corporations-- not the customer/consumer-- allowing the customer to be pushed aside. Are their laws in place to value and protect the customer? Really are there because as far as I can see and from this experience basically the only protection is public awareness, thus this site.
Even more alarming i that many people out there are becoming desensitized to corporate rippoffs--maybe not here---thinking that this is just a normal part of consumerism and the price we pay.
They are allowed and have the right to take our money!! And even worse is this fine print saves their butts when people start demanding to be treated with respect. I think it is a big giant rippoff!!!
I have used Hawaiian many time--somewhat of a loyalist, however after this last stint I will search for other airlines-- so that I don't have to swallow their bad customer service, and total disregard for the value of a good customer.
This site represents the checks and balances we need in a consumer based society.
Thanks for your time & keep on keeping on

It's Because of Deregulation

Back before deregulation in 1978 (You can thank Jimmy Carter who also gave away the Panama Canal) all airlines charged the same fare -set by the Government. As a result the airlines competed by offering perks such as meals, more seating space, and better in flight service, wide body aircraft etc. After deregulation airlines could charge what they wanted to and competed on price.
Budget airlines like People Express, Air New York, and Midway were allowed to start up with budget fares and the majors had to compete fare-wise. They did this by slowly eliminating food and then increasing seating (they added another row in the DC-10), cutting personnel, increasing fares between first and coach, and now they charge for checked baggage.
FF points are a joke. You MIGHT have a 10% chance of using them for a given flight. "Free" tickets are even worse. Cancellation fees are rampant and if you don't use a credit in a year it is cancelled. Hawaiian a few years ago was the holdout (other than Southwest) but now it charges for baggage.
Despite the charges, total lack of customer service, and cramped seating on the major airlines people still have to fly and they do. If you don't like it and you are travelling to Hawaii there is no alternative except chartering a jet.

I'm not a Tout

I'm not associated with Hawaiian in the least but I've flown American from Dallas to Honolulu and there is a world of difference in Hawaiian. Unfortunately since I flew they have started charging for checked baggage, have imposed (so everybody says) unreasonable change fees, and in short seemed to have joined everybody else. I'll still use them from Phoenix to Kauai because I know what the alternative is like. People are at the mercy of the airlines and the airlines can impose any ridiculous charge they want to. There is no alternative. Amtrak is slow, dirty, and expensive. I fly Southwest all of the time but they don't serve Hawaii. Wish they did.

You will see their true face when you have to deal with their "Consumer Advocate" whose job is not to respond or to give you the "Sorry-for-the -inconvenience" answer. These guys are as greedy as hell and don't care about cheating you in order to increase their profits.
I paid as well for something that I did not get. The only difference is that there was nothing in the contract or in the fineprinted that would justify their position.

I Didn't Say it Wasn't True

As I said, it could have been deleted from the system if you didn't reschedule and use the ticket a year after you bought it originally . As for being a tout I guess I am after using AA for a miserable trip to Hawaii and using Hawaiian for a pleasant one. If Hawaiian dropped you from the system in less than a year it is their fault. Clear and simple.

Hawaiian is #1

If you waited a year from the time you originally bought the ticket then the story is true. You were deleted from the system. I've always easily reached a customer service person when I call Hawaiian. I don't understand this fax business. You won't be happy travelling on another airline to Hawaii. Try American for total indifference, cramped seats, and no service from surly attendents. Hawaiian is #1 in my book tied with Southwest.
