HSBC Orchard Bank chargedlLate fees charged when we have proof payment was made before due date Salinas California

We have our payments via auto bank draft on all of our credit cards most are made on the due date. Orchard bank is made prior to the due date. we have had this on orchard bank for about a year.

We just recieved a statement with an unrealistic interest rate and a late fee. Our due date was on the 18th, they showed our payment on the 19th, our bank reciept shows the money paid on the 17th just as it has every month for a year. How can they process a payment on the 17th, recieve the funds on the 17th, and yet claim that the bill was not paid until the 19th ?
Customer service basically said the way it is is the way it is.

We are hoping to find others with similar problems and a lawyer who is not scarred.
We can afford to pay the credit card off and the late fees, but we don't owe these fees or the extreme interest. Does this show up on our credit report for being late when we were not?
