Lowe's 3 bouched window installs, 3 different contractors Miami Florida

I wanted to update you on the progress of the install of the Jeld-Wen windows at my home by Store 2904 and their contractors since this is the 3rd attempt at this install.

I have included a punch list and my overall thoughts concerning this project and all involved.

Included are several pictures documenting my findings for the installed windows.

The contractor had a very difficult time with the first window and explained this was the first time they have ever installed these roller windows from Jeld-Wen.  This heightened my concerns to watch every step of the project and to give advice with the knowledge and information I had learn from the 2 previous installers.  When I questioned the even and unleveled side frame I was told it was my walls so I asked him to show me with the level, were he attempted to hold the level in a manor to show they were good, I corrected him and his explanation was they are installed correct otherwise they would not open and close.  I have since gone back and fixed the worst of the unleveled sides and re-caulked it.  The window still opens and closes properly.  I only bring up this one issue as the details of the entire install would take me more than the 14.5 hrs. that it took to do this 3 window job.

We will draw this project to an end with the completion of the punch list item for Jeld-Wen and the inspection, along with my efforts to bring it to my standards.

Punch list for Kitchen window

1. Bowed frame, not level on sides and top.  Weathering felt comes out of tracks in the center.
2. Stripped screws in both locks for the Kitchen window.  
3. Scratches on opposite pain as identified by Kurt 2904 store manager.
4. Scratched on outside frame.
5. Needs more caulking on all sides, inside and outside.
6. Screen is bowed out in center.
7. Stucco work on the outside seemed unfinished and ruff.
8. Missing the required gold inspection sticker from Jeld-Wen.

Punch list for computer room windows

1. Bowed frame, not level on sides and top.  Weathering felt comes out of tracks in the center.
2. Needs more caulking on all sides, inside and outside.
3. Window scrapes in upper track at one end, frame is twisted.
4. Missing plastic piece on weep hole.
5. Stucco work on the outside seemed unfinished and ruff.
6. Missing the required gold inspection sticker from Jeld-Wen.

Punch list for small kitchen window

1. Frame not level on top, otherwise very level on sides and overall good install.
2. Scratches on outside bottom window pain, likely caused by loosely packing the screen inside the window frame.
3. Missing the required gold inspection sticker from Jeld-Wen.

When windows arrived they were packaged in bubble wrap and cardboard however when unpacked the frames still had corners that were crushed in and frame rails that were bent and wavy.  Mostly straighten or hidden behind the stucco and caulking.  Screens were packed inside and next to the windows and likely caused the scratch in the lower pain of the kitchen window.

I was told by Eduardo the windows could be ordered and were ordered as (1) left hand locking and (1) right hand locking.  When they did not arrive that way I called Kurt the 2904 store manager and was told he contacted Jeld-wen and they cannot be ordered that way.  I will follow-up with Jeld-Wen on this.

I asked Kurt to visit to advise as to what he thought of the install, His cavalier, this is normal, attitude left me with the feeling that this is the last time I will do business with Lowe’s.  We concluded our meeting with the understanding that his Jeld-Wen rep will take care of some if not most of these issues. I will finish the caulking myself.  I will get the finish stucco and complete the outside.  I have adjusted and re-caulked the worst of the bowed side frames in my computer room.

However, I honestly feel there should be some kind of compensation for my family’s displacement and my lost work days should be in order.
