I just received a letter from NCRS-DEBT Collect claiming that I owe 289.99 in additional fees and that all attempts to reach me have failed. The letter is poorly written, has phone numbers written in pen and ASAP in black magic marker. The letter threatens legal action if I do not mail them the money by 3/31 ( letter was mailed on 3/22).
If they do not get the money I risk $300 in more fees plus legal fees which will be costly. The letter is full of exclamation points and bold print. I knew the letter looked fraudulent but called the number out of curiousity and got a recording. Left a message. Then I called my local police department and set up an appt to file an attempted fraud report.
Then I will be filing with the US postal service for attempted mail fraud. The letter is obviously meant to scare people in hopes that they will send money in the obviously stamped envelope provided, which has a different address from the letter..in fact the provided envelope address, the address on the envelope the letter came in and the address at the top of the letter...NONE of them match..they are all different!!! I hope they catch these scumbags that are out there trying to hustle hardworking, honest people who in a moment of fear send their hard-earned money.
By the way after reading another one of the letters on this site, I began to think about a young man who came door to door selling magazines...he was with a company from back east...the magazine never came so I wrote off the 19.99....I wonder if that is how they got my name and address. Supposedly the magazines were being sold to help poor inner city youth finish school. Wonder if there is a connection.

To everyone out there that has received one of these bogus threatening collection letters. The phone number provided for NCRS is 704-464-6550...an internet search indicates that this is a landline located in Huntersville, NC which is 10 miles from Charlotte. I have obtained the phone number to the Huntersville, NC police department which I am calling in the morning, if you to would like to call the number is 704-875-6542. Maybe if enough people report these jerks to the local authorities where they are operating, then we can shut them down quickly before they do much damage. I also encourage you all to contact your local police departments as well as the US postal service as this is mail fraud.
