Recently, a member of my household read and reviewed an online ad, posted as an advertisement for computer tech support. This was followed up by a call made to the customer contact 1-800 number supplied in the advertisement.

The phone operator/tech that andswered, did so in fluent english; and promised the use of adware/spyware etc removal programs and such, that were far more comprehensive than even "Norton" (trademark/copywright etc). For informational purposes, you should know that we DO use nortons products, and also recommend them.

Upon placing and order, the before-mentioned family member proceeded to go about setting up, under guidance; the details of how to allow this service to remotely access and fix their "said" issues.

One of the first things done by the technician, after setting up a 3rd login account for themselves on the laptop, was to use and run OUR own copy of norton. <Alarm bells ringing here>

If theyres is soo much better than norton... WHY are they even using ours???? This only makes sense, in such a case where their advertisements and promises are a bunch of Bullshortz!!

The next thing they did was to download and install AVG (copywright/trademark etc) antivirus on the laptop.  For those of you who dont know this, activating and running 2 different antivirus programs can not only cancel each other out, they can limit/impede ANY findings... because both (if they are good) will detect each other, and try to analise threats (which they may see each other as.. ), and the programs may just get stuck in loops detecting each others scanning devices etc. and be there for hours if not days. All of this was done under the supervision of the other household-member.

A little while later, said household member informed me of the purchase of this service, and the desire to have my desktop checked out, since it was already paid for etc.

I personally spend ALOT of my day on my system, and I DO NOT allow anything to transpire without me watching (if i can help it).

When the "tech" ran my norton copy for my system... I immediately asked the tech, in their "chat" window; why he was using my software if theirs was so much better???  The tech responded (Informed guess here!!) using a google translator, from whatever the tech spoke, to englsh.

The response I got was (example:) "for to be the servicing you the better."  Needless to say major alarm bells are now going on, and I WAS NOT going to be put off.  I then asked them specifically "if your programs are better than OUR norton, why are you then using my norton on my own system??"

In response to my question, the technician hung up.  Two minutes later, and new connection was made, by a different "technician", who then started up my own copy of norton. >FACEPALM!<

In response to this, I immediately held down my POWER button for 5 seconds.. till the system died.

When I rebooted, I made sure to hit all the right buttons to watch the whole login sequence from bios to windows, making sure that no NEW entries or commands were there.

To me this service felt like letting a curious 8 year old loose on my system. They tried looking into alot of my desktop items, even made a pass at my recycle bin... all while supposedly providing a legitimate service.

Please be your own judge here....  Wouldn't you feel ripped off as well?
