Sears routinely sells Kenmore refrigerators (now made by LG, probably in China) and warranties the whole unit, including the sealed system and compressor , for 1 year only.

They tell no one about this when they are selling the units, and when my compressor is shot 3 years later, I am screwed.  Compressors and the sealed system were routinely covered  for 8 to 10 years.  If not covered by warranty I have to pay for the compressor, labor to install it and drain the coolant, and labor for someone to  re-install new coolant--a bill that easily could be $500 to $800, or more.

Sears does include that extended warranty (8 to 10 years) on compressors and the sealed system, but only on their "Elite" models.  Again nothing is said during the buying process when a buyer opts to buy a regular Kenmore refrigerator (not the "Elite").

With some research I found out GE has the complete warranty on all their refrigerators.  I am sure there are others, but I cannot afford to throw away a $1500 refrigerator, and start over with a GE.  I am retired and on a fixed income, now living in Las Vegas, NV.

Since you are into "guessing", I will continue on that basis.  Wow!  I am guessing you totally are misinterpreting my post.  The refrigerator warranty for the compressor and sealed system for dozens of years were always much better than the standard warranty for the rest of the unit. 

For dozens of years the 5 year or (in most cases) 8-10 years for the compressor and sealed system was in effect for most, if not all, refrigerators.  Shame on me for not knowing this changed just a few years ago, and there are only a few manufacturers left that still have the "old standard" warranty.

Shame on Sears for not pointing out the warranty at the time of sales, and also pointing out the difference between the standard Kenmore unit and the Kenmore Elite unit (which carried the extended warranty).  Had Kenmore offered that information, I would have considered buying the "Elite" or another refrigerator.

Although Sears has done nothing illegal, it's a question of a LACK OF ETHICS, and "mispresentation by omission" that they have done, and continue to do. 

No one is using the posting for the purposes of blackmail.   I have already ordered a compressor and arranged for the repair!  I am simply "venting" and exposing the "misrepresentation by omission" Sears continues to perpetuate.

Anyone who buys extended warranties, or think they are of some value, like the ones offered by Sears on a refrigerator is a complete sucker--you must fall into that category, if you believe they are worh it.

I retired from 40 years in the HVAC industry, and I can assure you (even now) compressors and sealed systems on air conditioning equipment (which have compressors) still carry extended warranties (at no extra charge), just as did refrigerators for many years. 

The manufacturer of the compressor (LG) obviously manufactures a low quality compressor in China, and therefore cannot afford to warranty it for at least 5 years.

As to the tone and content of your post--you obviously don't know what you are talking about, and therefore any further comments by me would be useless.

 Im guessing as a retired person YOU are falling into the "Used to" category. While unfortunate for YOU its a simple reality that YOU are purposefully avoiding. The reality of NOW versus THEN. back THEN they could afford to warranty a product for years and years. NOW they CANNOT do this. Mainly due to the self entitlement people such as yourself display. After the one year mark the refridgerator was YOURS!!! Meaning if YOU were either too dumb or poor to buy an extended warranty then YOU are the one who has to pay for repairs on YOUR fridge. Its YOUR problem. Now I know that on a fixed income YOU are pretty much BONED! But! THAT was the choice YOU MADE! YOU CHOSE to NOT get a warranty. WHY should ANY appliance company warranty a item for 8-10 years anymore? People like yourself who LIVE in the THEN don't seem to realize that EVERYTHING is much more expensive and MUCH MORE complex. So YOUR fridge breaks down and YOU immediately look to the company that ORIGINALLY made the item BEFORE you accept the responsibility of repairing YOUR fridge. Im betting that when YOU called them and THEY told YOU it wasn't going to happen, YOU IMMEDIATLY TOOK TO THE WEB to ATTEMPT BLACKMAIL! Sorry bub but as a person who has lived as long as YOU have knows it doesn't work that way. Its YOUR fridge. YOU did NOT purchase a warranty. YOU have to pay to fix it. Its NOT rocket surgery! It IS the way it IS! It ALWAYS saddens me when I see one of the members of the SUPPOSED greatest generation acting like nothing more then a average SCAMMER!! YOU shame yourself sir!!! YOU have NOT been ripped off. YOU are a victim of the choices YOU made. NOW when there is a problem YOU take no responsibility for the issue that is YOURS to take. YOU turn around and act like a spoiled CHILD because YOU have to pay for YOUR problem. THAT is the cost of NOT getting an extended warranty. The ONLY excuse YOU can really give is that YOU couldn't afford it. Even THAT excuse kinda falls flat as MOST retailers will allow you to purchase the warranty up to 30 days AFTER the purchase. Odds are that YOU intended to purchase it but forgot. NEITHER of which is the manufacturers fault. Accept YOUR part and understand that YOU ripped yourself OFF!
