I purchased a service contract for my home from Service America. They clearly state on their website pages, the benefits of purchasing a home warranty service contract: "No Hassle", "Peace of Mind", "Leave the repairs and replacements to us", etc. I took this at face value. In addition, I had to list every component to be covered under the service contract, paying extra for an additional A/C unit, full repair and replacement coverage, and zero deductible.

When my A/C unit needed to be serviced, Service America ("SA") refused to service the unit, instead telling me that I had to purchase a new unit for $5,400 (less a $1,500 credit since I owned a home warranty agreement). Nowhere on their website did they mention the replacement would be based on a partial credit, so the SA rep told me that I failed to read the 'fine print' in the service agreement (which is unavailable on their website).

I called other A/C companies and found the amount SA wanted to charge me for a new A/C unit was thousands of dollars higher. It seems like all SA wanted to do was upsell me on a new A/C unit, without even trying to fix the current one.

I contacted another company who looked at the A/C unit and was able to fix it for $610. This amount was $350 higher than necessary because the SA rep who looked at the unit earlier, loosened the schrader valve allowing all the refrigerant to leak out of the unit. Not only did SA refuse to fix the unit or try to diagnose it, they purposely worsened the problem causing more money to fix it.

I spoke to numerous people at SA, including a letter to the COO, requesting they refund my home service contract, or pay for the repair, but they refused, instead pushing me to purchase a new A/C unit from them or renew my service contract. I will never pay anything to this company again. They are as dishonest and malicious as anything I have seen.

SA charged money for a service contract and then refused to fix a covered A/C unit. If they had no intention of fixing my A/C THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE CHARGED ME FOR COVERAGE! SA is a dishonest and greedy company - they should have fixed my unit when called, instead of trying to upsell me a new unit that was thousands of dollars overpriced. I had other options with other companies like Totalprotect, HMS, AHS, First American, but I was induced by Service America's advertising that made me feel like they were indeed honest.
