Has anyone else had a problem like this? Shaw wall-to-wall Berber carpeting was installed throughout my second floor (through a decorator). Within months, bleached-out spots began appearing in all areas, even those that very rarely receive any use.
So far, an inspection report claims carpet is not defective, but I cannot explain the source of any of these markings. Because the carpet is cream-colored, there is no way to do touch-up. Shaw Industries and my decorator have been quite unsympathetic to the situation. My only conclusion: there is a severe color-fastness problem, but I am being ignored or sent on a wild-goose chase by Shaw's customer service department.

Shaw Responds to my Complaint
AUTHOR: janet K - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, December 20, 2009
When Shaw headquarters became alerted to my posted complaint here, they contacted me. They retested my carpet sample, but declared it non-defective. Though Shaw maintains that my carpet is not under warranty for any imperfections I've cited, they did assume cost of professional restoration of bleached spots. At present, carpet looks nearly good as new. Shaw's public relations department made an effort to rectify the problem in the most expeditious way possible. Note to carpet buyers: It seems that some carpet brands are highly susceptible to bleaching from ordinary home-use products (like acne medications, sun tan products). Though I could never trace how such products came in contact with my carpet, I have now heard reports of other incidents. Steam cleaning may worsen problem.
