I know what each client is talking about.. I have worked for Smart Style for a few months and don't like what I see. I have had my lic for over a few years. Been working with clients on and off.

One of the supervisor hired me and left, then another supervisor took her position and stated to another stylist I hope you get the manager position. Well she didn't and it was given to me, Not only do I have experience but tack with clients. I care a alot of what clients say....

There have been many clients coming into the salon stating that other Smart Style salons were charging too high. The clients are right. Each salon and stylist seems to charge over and beyond the prices given to us. RIP off yes it is....

I know for a fact the records state that a manager or stylist has 3 months probation but this was not the case.

I totally disagree what the supervisor has done, telling me to step down, she knew she wanted another manager in the salon ...There are channels to go thru,,meaning verbal write up, then warning either 1, 2 3, then possible correction or step down. I was not given the chance to correct or prove myself. Only 1 month...where as the company states 3 months....Even as a manager, they tell you to hire, but ask if they are BLACK? Then when I do hire, then that is held against me. Supervisor stating I needed her permission to hire. So why have managers in the salon to hire and manager day to day when new supervisor have power trip over managers......When I needed the supervisor to hire, she stated only 1 P/T, then supervisor express to another stylist that I am trying to hire 1 F/T and 1 P/T....

Totally different, Supervisor states comments, depends on whom she is talking to....Nothing seems to match....
The supervisor then brings some other stylist to become manager , then tell one of the stylist you will like her she's BLACK, there it is again......race....should not be the issue.

There have been times I have heard that when a supversor does not like or want you in the salon, she just make her own arrangements to bring other in....who she likes.....

When the corp office states 3 months pro either for managers or stylist it should be 3 months not 1 month......goes against company policy and not even given the manager or stylist a chance to prove themselve.

Not only clients have problems but the stylist, manager have a hugh problem with the supervisor.....they favor who they want and don't want in managment/stylist/location ...

Refusing Customers...

AUTHOR: Gatortastic - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Gail,
As unprofessional as it may seem, I work with the Regis corporation and sometimes people come in who we really can't help but to refuse. When people come in who have not showered (and I don't mean haven't showered in a few days...i mean WEEKS) have sores on their scalp, etc. I refuse to work on them. My job is to cut hair. Not to have to cut hair while holding my breath the entire time and trying not to vomit, and then having to waste 15 minutes after the haircut to disinfect (which has happened to me before.) If people have no respect for whoever is doing hair, I have no respect for them.

I appologize if what I am saying seems rude, but in my opinion..sometimes you just have to refuse people.

Take notice on your checks they are not only ripping the clients off you as well

Prices are high, have to charge two dollars for a conditioner, if you blow dry blah, blah, but how do expect to make any money, i am not saying that Smart Style isn't a money machine, but that is what corperations do, they have to have revenue to line the shareholders pockets, so yes the prices are going to be inflated and such.
But to current employees have you ever questioned the advance pay, like if you make commission during the first three weeks, and lets say you stay on for the rest of the pay period, your first payment of the month is concider an advance payment, than your next earnings are deducted from that, plus tips added in and such. Yet, you are still earning that total, it is like it is a system to give them tax credit or such.
And I am sorry that your supervisor is ignorant, I applied for the managers position, all the employees thought I had it, the supervisor gave it to someone ten yrs younger than me, same experience, six months out of school, you know why? Because I seemed to flighty to her, yet, with this manager again, I was covering all the shifts, I covered her shifts. She quit four months of being hired and the sad thing was she wasn't with our company before. So I reapplied thinking this time it would be different, needless to say I walked out, I miss my job, even tried going back, but during my so called interveiw I go this huge lecture, that was when I knew they(meaning the company) did not care for the professionlism of us stylist, did not care for the client, nor did they give a d**n about the employees. We are all replaceable in their eyes yet the one I worked for, they couldn't figure out why the numbers dropped after hiring the person they chose for manager, why everything was good until than. I had no answer, I knew what I wanted to say, but would not dare, does your area supervisor care about your store, if there is a problem and you have exhausted all your opitions will she listen? Mine didn't, and I know that is cause she didn't like me, or the fact I took my job and profession seriously. Keep your head up, and hang in there, I wish I had.

Prices

AUTHOR: Gail - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 09, 2007

You are some what right. There are starting prices just like every other salon. The only difference is that every stylist in Smart Style can charge their own prices.

Gates location vs Henrietta location

I have had many friends call and arrive at these salons. They state different prices for the same type of hair.

The feed back I get is that most of the stylist looks like they just rolled out of bed. Their clothing is not professional, their looks needs to be adjusted. Most of all their attitude if they don't want to wait on you, you just sit there then they say we can't take you.

The supervior states tell clients to come back. Bad for business. I have had many clients contact me now to service them, because all they get is come back another time.

I really think Regis would understand if they were in the salons watching and learning whats going on in their shop. Of course the supervisors will get rid of you, because you speak up and won't let anyone walk all over you.

There are very little excellent stylist who care about the clients. When you show you care, they get rid of you. Favorits...

Have a wonderful day. spread the word, clients need to go where professional stylist are treated like people not like a walking wallet.

Prices

AUTHOR: Krissy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 08, 2007

I am a manager of a Smartstyle. And I agree with the fact that there are many problems within the company but I have realized that most of that wont change. No one is willing to listent to the problems.

What I would also like to address is the pricing issue. Perms and colors have a starting price. Perms start at 39.95 and go up because it depends on length and type of perm. And colors are the same way depending on foiling cap or all over and also length and amount of colors you are using. I hope that makes sense.

Hope that this has not stepped on any toes. Everyone has a nice day.

Not all Smart Style Salon are professional

AUTHOR: Gail - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 15, 2006

To your response:

I have seen and heard that not all Supervisors and Managers are professional and committed to company policy. I know of a few Managers and Supervisor who do not go by policy. If they don't like you, you are gone and replace with some other person who not only dresses unprofessionl but does not have manager/supervisor skill. They to me are only stylist who moved up.

You have managers who don't follow policy like the other manager in salon. There was a manager who charge high price to a client for same service that another Smart Style Salon would charge. You have a Supervisor who does not let managers hire only state are they Black. You are dead wrong when you think you know other manangers and supervisor.

Where as I have professional and management/supervisor skills and know how to deal with the public. I have found that your supervisor can say anything just to get rid of you without proof. I have file a formal compaint with the BBB and other agency.

Every salon is different.

AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 15, 2006

I have been an employee of smart style for 2 years now. I've worked at about 3 different places in my carrer. on my own , at a fantastic sams, and of coarse smart style . now from my experience every salon is different it all has to do with the employees. we provide the service, as well as the customer service. in our salon we have a hard time keeping employees. we are always busy .some dont like to work so hard.my mother is also an eployee she is handi cap and they have never discriminated her in any way . they meet all her needs as she works from a chair. we now have a good staff .but at one time it wasn't all that good. we had rude and sometime mean employees.they obviosly never learned how to work with the public.beeing rude gets you nowhere no tips no return clientel and eventualy you'll lose your job. we have an awsome manager, and we all get along great and that makes all the difference for the customers cause we all have a good time it makes the hole experience worth while. but we have our fair share of complaints. and rude employees that had to go. so not every smart style is a total rip off there are still a few good hairdressers.

Supervisor not telling the truth

AUTHOR: Gail - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 23, 2006

A client came into the salon ask what does 39.95 and up mean for a perm.

I explain that for your hair it will cost 39.95. The client replied that another smart style charged her 51.00. I inturn had asked was there extra services done. She replied that the only thing was done after the perm was a snip of ends and a couple of curls placed with the curling iron on top. If the perm took correctly a curling iron would not have been used....

I gave her the Supervisor number. The supervisor told the client that our salon was charging much less and the correct price for the perm was correct as she used clarifing shampoo....Shampoo, cut and blow dry is included with the cost of the perm...There should have been no extra charge.

The supervisor was extremly rude to the client when she tried to explain what had happen.

Not only as a stylist do we have problems with other smart style salons charging extremly higher prices than the other smart style salons, we have supervisors who are rude and do not take in account the facts and truth regarding any client issues that are brought to their attention, they just void the issue and put blame on other managers and stylist....

I had asked the supervisor if the client was taken care of, she replied yes....but that was not the case, the client came in upset as the supervisor was rude to her and stated different facts than what was said to the stylist at the shop.....

Yes we have hugh problems, cover up, supervisor favortizm toward stylist, whom she want to manage, hire within.......

Clients have the right to demand good service with proper charging of prices.....
