My husband and I have previously financed a minivan with this company. On that deal everything went o.k. However, we came in to see if we could be financed for another vehicle. We weren't sure because my husband is employed and with the union, but is also on workers' comp. So his check stubs show a different company making payments on his companys behalf of the workers' comp case.

Our saleperson that we were dealing with his name is Ariel Yepez on the pre-owned side. We had a car that we could've traded in but they said our interest rate was going to be at the max 17.99% so we decided to save our down payment monies and apply those to our payments until we could then re-finance. Ariel was at this point very understanding. He insisted on filling out the application-the 3 times it took him to do, and flat out told me no when I insisted on doing it myself, he said that no "this is the way we do it here".

We explained very clearly to him about the workers comp situation. He came back after talking to his sales manager and said o.k. you can get financed. So we had picked out a blue Chevy Cobalt. It was priced o.k. so we signed the contract. I then turned around (since I was waiting for approval before actually signing my car away) and sold my car at the dealership to an individual. The next day after I got the car I received a call from Ariel saying they wanted $500 more to satisfy the banks requirements.

I told them no, that's not what was verbally stated to me the day prior as well as what was written in my contract, and they said well then we need to pick up the car. I told them that would be a breach of contract and that I was going to call the GM and the finance manager of Vandergriff. I did in fact leave messages. I received a phone call later from the finance manager, and he was very apologetic and said let us meet you halfway, we'll write you a check for the amount of money the bank is requiring and then you go cash it and bring in the money to make "the down payment". My husband and I agreed. He said we'd need to sign another contract to reflect the change and that this would be good for us, because it would lower our payments to $375 from $423.70. So that was very enticing and we came in the next morning at 10:30.

When we showed up the check was not ready, so we decided to run errands and come back. We came back and picked up the check, and when we did the man who issued the check acted real funny asking questions like: are you going to cash this at your bank? or when? We thought nothing of it at first, but just to be safe we went to a check cashing location and cashed it. It did cash, but when we returned to the dealership they then needed all our info over again, check stubs, proof of residence, etc. So we went home got the info came right back, at this time it was after 2p.m. They then decided they could not finance us, claiming that we lied on our application about were my husband worked. This was very upsetting because we never lied, there would be no point of doing this since we have to provide proof of employment by way of check stubs.

We were humiliated by the sales person's disrespect, but it didn't stop there. The sales manager, and finance manager stepped in with the same comments about us lying and that they wanted their car back. At this point I gave up and said fine, I will go to another Chevrolet dealer, and since you did not fulfill your obligation in your contract, I am considering the money you gave me $725 a gift and I will give my money to the new dealership for a car. At least there I will be treated with respect and not lied to.

The finance manager got irate at this point, told me to tell my children (all under the age of 4) to shut up. When I told him don't talk to my kids like that, he got up and walked away. I waited for him to come back and at least take the keys and issue me proof I owe nothing on the car. He evaded me every time I tried to talk with him. When I walked outside, Ariel had parked his car behind the car I had attempted to finance, (like I would really steal it!). Even at this point, I nearly had to throw the keys at them in front of other people so as to have witnesses to the fact of me returning them. I was stranded at this dealership for hours, and left with no car, not even my original vehicle I would not have sold if I had not been promised by way of contract a car.

They "screwed" me and will do it to others. Bottom line is their commissions. This is how they all survive. I am telling you beware, don't believe them, even when it's in writing because they also tricked me into signing an attached "purchase agreement" that states on the back in fine print line 14 that if for any reason financing is not obtained, etc. etc. I must return the vehicle, in other words. It also states that this document, not the contract is final and binding.

A word to the wise Vandergriff is not family owned anymore, and it is a pity!!!
